TLDR : Answer Summary
Travelers flying with Qatar Airways are required to have a PCR test conducted within 72 hours prior to departure. This has been confirmed by multiple users, although some mention a discrepancy with airline communications stating 48 hours. It is also noted that the test must be an RT-PCR type, while rapid tests may face additional scrutiny. For travelers from countries like the UK or Australia, timing of the test results can present challenges, especially with long-haul flights.

For Laos, the PCR test must be collected 72 hours before landing at the airport in Laos. This is hard to comply travelling from Australia.

Wow. Where are the flights from? Coming from US to BKK best connect from west coast is about an 18 hour evolution. Best "guarantee" for expedited test results I have seen is 5pm next day. 72 hours before landing pretty much impossible.

Sydney-Incheon (Korea)-Vientiane. Australia has a website pathology service specifically for international travellers that fast tracks the system and emails the PCR result. It is tight and We can’t afford to have the plane delayed 😳

All this will be painless as soon as the health passport apps mooted by IATA are formally launched.

Check mate because in the U.K. it is results must be issued within 72 hours so could have your test before that. Check on your embassy website

Correct.. FYI much easier if it is exactly RT-PCR, ours was rapid test but different, kinda locked them up but the approved it..

Misleading info thru out the responses. 72 hrs before flight is RESULTS; NOT the Test. Be sure you are NOT doing the Rapid test; must be RT-PCR; but quick turn around time would be a good thing. The Fit 2 Fly must also be done within 72 hours of departure, but is independent of from the RT-PCR test.

That is the only type of test you can have. It has to be a rapid test...

Not to confuse anyone, the 5 minute rapid tests by ABBOT labs which have appeared and test debuted any some airports to LHR etc are not allowed. Thailand is RT-PCR only, because of the sensitivity

Good for you. If it was the Abbott labs 5-15 minute test you got lucky.
