TLDR : Answer Summary
A USA citizen traveling from Bangkok to Seattle needs a PCR test 1 day before their flight; alternatively, an antigen test with a lab letter is acceptable and potentially cheaper. Masks are still required on Qatar International flights to the USA.

Do the test at the airport. Floor 1 door 3 or 8. Approx 20 minutes for results if not too busy.

Hello Stuart ! ....I have an opinion question please. In BKK airport i must get and antigen test , my Qatar flight leaves at 2:30 ....yet my Vietjet does not arrive BKK until 1:10. ( There is another flight but it arrives 4 hrs earlier) So, am thinking of chancing the 1:10. Aka Arrive BKK 1:10, GET bag from Baggage claim, go get antigen test ,.then check in Qatar. Plane leaves at 2:30. Do you think that is cutting too close? Wed should be slow travel day. (Just looking for feedback. I will be traveling for 26 hours......i sure would hate to wait 4 more hours in the airport. ) Thanks!

personally I think that it might be cutting it too close. Quite often bags aren’t delivered straight away (maybe 15-20 minutes). The test at best will take 15-20 minutes if not busy. Most airlines want you to check in 2 or so hours before and close the checkin one hour (maybe 40 minutes) beforehand.

You might make it, but I don’t think I’d be brave enough to risk it.

once went from NZ to Dublin (before the Middle Eastern hubs were in vogue). Door to door travel time with stops and such was 50 hours. Not fun with a two year old.

I don’t believe so, as usually if you’re in transit they use the rules of your destination country. Maybe others can confirm.
