TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a long-term multiple entry Thai visa for at least one year, you have several options: apply for a Non-Immigrant O visa, which can be available if you are married to a Thai national or if you are a guardian of a child. You can also consider a volunteer visa or a combat visa if you are participating in self-defense training in Chiang Mai. Another option is to apply for a multiple-entry tourist visa from your home country, but this typically lasts up to 9 months. Alternatively, enrolling in a Thai language course could grant you an ED visa. For long-term residency, you might also explore the Thai Elite Card, which offers visas for 5 to 10 years.

Bare in mind that after being on any ED visa, lots of people are then denied a Tourist visa or denied entry once they attempt to switch back to a Tourist visa. Immigration assume you are working here.
Duncan *******
There are a few stray reports of that happening, zero proof that it's "lots of people." Was on an ED last year, picked up a new TR in Pengang in March, visa and reentry zero problems.

Good to know

Get single entry non o visa then. Easy

I m from bangladesh. I have bsns meeting in the Thailand with Canadian i showed Hotel booking both + bank statement (personal & company ) air booking but now they are asking that need papers from hotel they know we are going for bsns meeting. I feel its funny requirements.

Pls advice .
Nic *******
That would make sense. They are worried that he might stay?

While I hate to say this (because of how it sounds :/) the scrutiny
@Ikr****
, is being put under is because he's from Bangladesh :( People from MANY countries are subject to far more vetting than other countries . . .
Nic *******
Ohhhh that is weird. Sorry. I misread!
Marco *********
He said they asked a letter of hotel that confirms he and canadian guy must meet for business purpose.

Yes, I think this is weird.
Nic *******
No, this is normal at some consulates. Penang insists on it. Just show your hotel booking so you can get your visa. It doesn't have to be for the whole time I think.

Visa needed to Volunteer in Thailand is the Non-Immigrant O visa, costs of Multiple Entry 1 year visa is 5000 Thb, not
*****
Thb.

@Rob***
, I have never seen a volunteer holding a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa. At least not one issued from a thai consulate in any of the neighboring S/E Asian countries (I did see one issued from the thai consulate in New York though).

I've only seen them pull 90 day single entry ones, and then get in country extensions..

I think we have had enough of
@Steve ****
peddling dodgy "volunteer" visas. This page is for legitimate ways to stay.

@Steve ****
show me picture of that visa. What agencies sale is , at least in Bangkok, a one year work permit tied to a Non O "Volunteer", but to maintain the Non O people are requested to apply a new Non O every three month, outside Thailand.
Steve *****
@Robert ******
the visa cost is 5000 baht but you only can get a visa if you have a qualifying volunteering job isn't it? You can get this through an agent and all of those agents offer the complete package including a job and paperwork visa contact with immigration officer etc etc. This total package incl visa is everywhere offered for 33.000 baht! Tell me if it is different.

Thailand Embassy or Consulate.
Steve *****
Or get a volunteering visa 1 year or a combat visa 1 year. Both cost
*****
baht.....
Lloyd ********
I believe that is the only one, never heard of another.
Nic *******
That sounds super interesting. Do you know if there are other in other areas that are reliable and certified?
Tod *********
Okay that combat school up in Chiang Mai run by Jet is the real deal, above board & it's MOE certified.

They give you paperwork to go out of the country and get a 90 day single entry Non-ED visa, then give you more paperwork every 90 days to get an extension of stay at the immigration office.

FWIW: they don't fall under the same requirements as learning the thai language as far as minimum attendance per week.
Steve *****
@Lloyd *******
why don't you google it when you want to know instead of shouting what nobody sugested?
Nic *******
He is saying every fortnight you have to do two four hour training sessions. Not that you have to do it for 14 days only
Lloyd ********
You do NOT get a 1 year visa for 14 days of training!
Nic *******
Do you mean for Muay Thai then? I thought it was something to do with the army :D
Steve *****
A combat visa is issued by yhai government for 1 year when you take every 14 days 2 x 4 hours of self defence training. Age and experience is not important for this one. In same schools come many police and army people. Very nice and easy type of visa. Only for chiang mai. Just google chiang mai combat visa......

Is that when you marry a Thai Bird???
Nic *******
Combat visa?!?
Nic *******
Multi entry tourist visa from your own country. Would only give you up to 9 months though. Or option b. sign up to do a Thai course with a language school and get an ED visa
Robert *******
1 year visa Non-Immigrant if you have job in Thailand, retired and above 50, married to a Thai, guardian of child. Or subscribe for Thai Elite Card for 5 or 10 years.
