Update - I have an O-A visa (from 10/2019). After spending a few days outside of Thailand, My return to the kingdom yesterday was without problems and I got a visa for another year (Suvarnabhumi).

I was not asked to show any health insurance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the recent experience of a user re-entering Thailand on an O-A visa without being asked for health insurance, contrasting it with mixed reports from others regarding the enforcement of insurance requirements. The comments highlight concerns about future requirements and experiences among different Immigration Officers.

I’m only interested in returning on an already active ‘extension ‘ based on a 0-A ..as I leave on the 10th Nov and returning 24th

Personally although I’m concerned I really can’t see how they can ask you for insurance, because you ( me ) obtained the extension before the 31st Oct .. sure when you go to renew it I can understand it as you won’t get the ‘ extension without insurance.. but anybody on an active one the must assume it was before Or you would naturally have insurance otherwise you wouldn’t of got the stamp ?

hope that I have helped ..."think outside of the box" with this O-A issue

and if you do...may I suggest the 300,000 Thai baht deductible policy? Reduces the annual premium by approx 50%. Keep your 800,000 Thai baht equivalent money in your home country earning interest...now est 2-3.5% in USA. By doing so you have minimized the net cost of insurance...

The common theme here seems to be, as James puts it,...a mixed bag. Some IO's are asking for health ins. for O-A holders and some are not. I was. And this was for an O-A visa obtained prior to 31st Oct.

I wish I could agree with your logic re the O-A. And am hopeful you are correct. However I do believe all of us eventually -.as Thai Immigration fully implements the requirement of the O-A ...we will be asked upon reentry into Thailand. And those who do not leave Thailand will be asked when they seek an Extension of Stay.

Great news! Let's hope it catches on...

Thanks for the helpful feedback. But we are watchful as you...mixed signals reported to date.

Eze. This was my first entry on that visa. I got it from the Thai Embassy in London in September and arrived at Bangkok Airport on 6th November.

and this was for an O-A visa obtained prior to 31st Oct and the new health ins. requirement.

yes...we are aware of that...and monitoring it.

We do expect it to be a REQUIREMENT FOR ALL O-A Extensions...and For Entry or Reentry into Thailand for O-A holders.

However as its so very new...its apparent that even Thai Immigration is still getting up to speed at entry points into Thailand. A mixed bag of reports. But that likely will become consistent in weeks and months ahead. Its best to be prepared with ones options when and if the requirement is fully monitored.

Rob There are several reports on ThaiVisa of O-A holders (including O-As issued before the 31st) being asked for insurance.

Rob Phillips here is a post today...

"Good news! So far I have read 4 first hand reports of people entering with a pre Oct 31st OA visa. 2 allowed in with no questions asked and 2 being given entry for 1 month and told to get insurance sorted within the month then fly out and return to get a full stamp in. All at BKK this week. Let’s hope they decide on a common approach and that is the one you experienced."

Rob Phillips yes please do. As I have reports of asking for insurance upon arrival and given 30 days to produce it at Thai Immigration.

I only seek to alert folks...its a mixed bag of happenings.

BTW...I am very keen on this O-A issue as I too hold an O-A.

@James *******
....... Where are the mixed signals? All i've read, from several sources,is that immigration have NOT been asking to see insurance on entering Thailand but i'll bow to you if you have knowledge to the contrary.
James ********
Wonderful...was this the first time you entered on the O-A visa?
