TLDR : Answer Summary
Experiences shared by expats about opening a bank account with Krungthai Bank vary significantly. Some noted that account approval often depends on the type of visa, with certain visas like the DTV not qualifying under normal circumstances. Others highlighted the importance of branch-specific requirements, suggesting that having a residence certificate from immigration can facilitate the process. Personal anecdotes revealed that assistance from a Thai partner could help overcome obstacles during application. Overall, while some had smooth experiences, particularly with helpful staff at specific locations, others faced challenges with other banks, indicating that individual circumstances played a key role in the outcome.

I opened an account with Krungthai in Lomsak having been turned down numerous times by both Kasikorn and SCB. I’m in a non O 90 day for retirement. Really helpful staff and very easy to open an account. I did. Have to take out small insurance policy though.

Those insurances are basically useless. When it expires, don't renew it.

yeah agreed. At the time I had come to the end of my tether. Day 3 of travelling all over the region only to get turned down by all banks. As we know each branch citing different and nonesense requirements. When you point out the banks web page and

Policy it’s the old shrug and try somewhere else!! It’s pretty clear the initial 90 day visa has them stumped, and although they agree you need an account for the extension of stay they won’t open an account without that. Once again greeted with the customary shrug

The problem is that they are not really experts when it comes to visas.Especially out in the sticks. In their eyes a 90 days Non-O visa isn't a long stay visa.

absolutely. I don’t blame the staff. It’s the branch managers that set the rules and they get together and clearly just make it up as the go along 🤣🤣🤣

It depends on bank and branch. They basically have their own requirements at the moment. To make it a bit easier, get a residence certificate from immigration.

I came here on an “O” visa. Try SCB, Bangkok Bank & KrungThai.

Tried multiple times at each wit a no go.

My last attempt my girlfriend came with me to KrungThai.

They still didn’t like me until she told them I was her husband. Bing, bam, boom account opened.

Depends primarily on your visa.

DTV isn’t eligible for Thai bankaccounts, unless very special circumstances.
