TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV Visa for Muay Thai allows foreigners to study at accredited gyms in Thailand, which offer a variety of classes tailored to different skill levels. Training sessions can vary significantly between gyms; some offer structured group classes while others provide more personalized training options. For beginners, classes may be intense but are designed to be accommodating regardless of age or experience. Gyms often include warm-up exercises, technique drills, and sparring in their curriculum. It's essential to choose an accredited gym that meets the DTV visa requirements.

If you manage to survive the first day, I guess you are golden ;)

The classes are strict and tiring but you will learn the Thai national sport , The trainers are very proud of their national sport and they are very skilled and they want you to be serious about training .

I went to punch it gym in koh samui as a beginner at 58 yrs old , I paid my daily fee of 400 baht and from day one I was training hard and dripping with sweat but it was great fun and I really enjoyed it but it was also very tiring and hard .

I loved wearing those Muay Thai shorts

Let me give an example of how training is at my gym, Tiger Eye. We have a mixed group of people. 40% of our members are affiliated with the United Nations, these are people who come 3-5 days a week and do a 90 minute session of Muay Thai which consists of a warm up via jumping rope, or partner drill followed by review of a technique, padwork and some exercises.

We also have in house Thai fighters who train twice a day, run in the mornings and fight every few weeks.

It depends on who you are and what your looking to get out of it. No one is going to force you to train and no one is going to treat you like it's boot camp.

It depends what gym you sign up with…

My husband and I are at Fever Muay Thai in Chiang Mai

Currently, they offer a six month group class, one time a week

We however, signed up for twice a week, private classes, and have paid more money. They are marvellous and very accommodating to our needs as we are both older.

@Stefani *******
You must be so fit to do two classes per day and private lessons .

One session per day for me is enough

@Chris ********
it’s 2 times a week not 2 times A day.

I thought you just paid for a month's course, got the visa, then when you get here you hurt your leg and cancelled the course. I mean isn't EVERYONE getting these visas? 😆😆

@Andy ***********
My leg is hurt already, you insensitive clod!

@Andy ***********
I think they will check to make sure you are actually training .

Like you say anyone can pay the fee and then manipulate it , I don’t think they are that stupid
Chris *********
Please watch a YouTube channel called RW4U , this YouTube creator has interviewed an employee from the government who explains the DTV visa
Andy ************
@Chris ********
They don't care. There are thousands of DTVs being issued for a whole range of reasons. You really think they're going to follow up every single visa, to make sure people are keeping their dental appointments, to make sure digital nomads really are sitting in coffee shops playing computer games, to make sure people are turning into master chefs? Seriously?
Chris *********
@Andy ***********
Yes of course they will , You think they are stupid ?

They will already have worked out a system to check up on people and issue Fines if you are manipulating the system.

They will probably ask for updated proof at the immigration before stamping your passport.

They are already beginning to question people at airport immigration.

You will see when the time comes ?
Andy ************
@Chris ********
Nope. I know two people already been on DTV since the inception. One has already bounced twice. Absolutely ZERO checks. Best visa ever. Anyone can get one
Chris *********
@Andy ***********
Yes they have bounced twice but within the first 6 months .

This is early days for the DTV .
Andy ************
@Chris ********
Each time you bounce you get another six months, so first six months is no longer relevant

You have to live at the gym, wake up at 6am, run 10km, then jump rope for 30min, shadowbox 30min, then 100 roundhouse kicks each leg, then hit pads with a trainer for an hour, ooweee, then spare 3 guys at full power, then do a flying knee on a tiger, thats session 1. Then go eat rice and sleep a few hours. Repeat all that for session 2 in the afternoon. Then go to bed and repeat every day. Pretty simple honestly

Anonymous participant 563 You forgot the meditations. The prayers. No smoking. No Beer. No sex - not even looking at girls. And the random wake ups at night with water buckets full of ice cubes.

And honestly: the rice is not the rice we used to have. It is full with dead bugs of various kinds.

Then there are the guards that let you in and out ... if they let you out ... which you have to bribe every time.

But as you said: with a little bit of focus and determination, easy peasy!

khap, ice bath good because rawn mak mak, and bugs in rice for good protein 😋

you'll be able to find a gym you like and most should do a pretty good job with new foreigners. I'm not familiar if the DTV requires you to go to the school you attend, but I assume you'll have invested some funds to at least start out as a student at an accredited gym.
James ********
@Mike *********
MUST attend classes as applied for... otherwise obtaining the DTV visa fraudently can be a problem. Similar happenings to the Ed Visa and Volunteer Visa brought about a crackdown and visa holders denied entry.
Andy ************
@James *******
You can always get hurt before classes start and then on doctor's advice postpone the course for a year or two 😆
Chris *******
@James *******
there is no requirement to attend or any enforcement as it is a leisure activity only.

You are given the visa with no requirement to check in or extend anything in country other than 90 day reports and tm30.

Yes its ridiculous.
James ********
@Chris ******
it's fraud in obtaining the DTV visa. Similar to the fraud in obtaining the Ed Visa and Volunteer Visas of recent years. It's going to be a problem for those who do NOT attend the courses for which they obtained the DTV visa for, IMHO
Chris *******
@James *******
sorry your opinion is incorrect.

If the course is paid for like any tour it is up to you whether you attend or not.

Remember even music festivals can be used to get this visa.

ED visa and Volunteer visas were fraudulently obtained and are orchestrated by agents and services in Thailand.

And are proving to be problems.

But these types of Visas are regulated and still happen.

The DTV with the "soft" power is to encourage tourism, not education.

No different than buying a gym membership and never going, you still had a gym membership.

Fear mongering based on your opinion with no factual basis is not in character for someone generally well versed in Thai visas.

Disappointing.
James ********
@Chris ******
it's my opinion. Sorry to disappoint you. With the kinds of questions seen about how to get around the attendance requirements, it reminds me of the problems related directly to the Ed Visa and Volunteer Visas of recent years.

Simply get the DTV visa for whatever purpose and follow thru with whatever schedule for classes submitted to get the DTV visa, and no problems to ever worry about.

Fight EVO360 Thailand - Thepprasit Boxing Stadium can talk to Sharon, she's familiar with the dtv and has fully accredited gym.
