TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses various Muay Thai gyms in Chiang Mai that offer DTV visas for expats. Notable mentions include Lanna Muay Thai, Core Combat Chiang Mai, and The Wall Fitness, with differing fees and services. Some commenters caution about the affordability and potential issues associated with the DTV visa, prompting a debate on the best options for training and visa application.
OR, get a hair loss/hair strengthening 6 month bi-weekly treatment for 1500 thb each treatment, and apply via soft power.

'The Wall Fitness' offers support for the Muay Thai Soft power dtv visa for a fee of B10k and have had 11 successful applicants (when I talked to them). Miss Peng handles the paperwork and seems very professional and genuinely helpful. I've heard good things about the Muay Thai Trainer, Faraz.
MTFever gym does have over 80 successful applicants and the people there are very thorough. The gym trainers are former lumpini champions and very humble. I would go for the place that offers the highest probability of success but Chiang Mai Muay Thai gym have a good track record with the ED visa (so will probably be able to handle the dtv visa, too), Lanna muay Thai (aka KiatBusaba gym) has been around for a really long time and produced northern champions but would be more expensive. Xmax Muay Thai seemed to have a lot of Chinese students and seemed to be very good at processing the ED visa, had a huge facility but seem to have a more touristy level of muay thai. They had 3 boxing rings, though.
Coming from the old city to central festival mall, there also used to be a Thai language school to the left of the mall that did a 1 year ed visa for B25k, without you having to leave the country or pay the B11-12k fees to the Thai embassy. Attending two 2hr classes a week was advised but there was no homework. You could see if they're still in business or you could go to 'Thai Language School' in pantip plaza which is probably about B20-25k for 6 months. This could work out a bit cheaper in the very short term and might give you some time to replenish your cash stash (if that's not too presumptuous).
I've listed some options but the 2 places which seem to have the highest likelihood of success wrt dtv are MTFever gym and 'The Wall Fitness', respectively.
Good luck with whatever you decide and stay away from visa agents. They all quoted me ridiculous costs.
Peace.

The Wall (near Maya) offers it

What a question! The Muay Thai schools do not issue DTV visa. For this, you have to apply outside of Thailand on a Thai embassy or consulate. Some still allow personal visits, but most others use the E-visa online system, and post 10 to 15 days processing time

I will help you out mate ... try Faraz at The Wall in chiang mai. We are stacked and I understand they are a touch cheaper than us. Most muay thai gyms in CM will quote 2 or 3 x what we charge

Are you asking for more options? Core combat and muay thai fever were my top choices for CM, i went with core since ive known the owners for awhile, I have heard that Derry of MF is a great guy. I would go with tried and tested gyms on the DTV, the extra support and questions amswered is worth it.

I'm not saying muaythai fever is expensive, they are ok. What I'm saying is this group has to much muay thai fever

Anonymous participant we got Muay Thai Fever and there ain't no cure!!
Actually we are only really doing referrals and regular students now tbh. Happy to give advice though as we were some kind of pioneer at the start
( I'm MTF co owner btw)

Anonymous participant the reason for that is that they have a proven track record of helping people get the DTV and are a reputable gym. Your other option would be to contact the many other gyms in Chiang Mai to see if they also have success with the DTV.
That’s OK. I'm a cheap Charlie, too. I think it's a good idea to be thrifty whenever one can and it's still a great life here; outstanding food, great weather, comfy accommodation, cheap transport, cheap gyms (but very good...especially the muay thai gyms) and there's even a free monkey bar style gym outside the big decathlon, which I am not very, very embarrassed ☺️ to say I have used on occasion.
I've been teaching in uk secondary schools for the last 4 years and don't especially want to go back to that. So, I'm trying to make my savings last.
However, I understand your concerns about unwanted types causing problems in Thailand and I sympathise. I've met many such on parents' evenings.
Hopefully, I and my thrifty brethren won't cause any major problems for anyone.
This visa is obviously not having the intent it was created for in many cases. I am waiting for the first arrests of people working in Thailand on it as tour guides or the like. Immigration salivating at the thought. :-)
I agree with you. Immigration is surprisingly coy about this visa. People who have spoken to Immigration Officers both at offices and acquaintances saying same thing. Will be interesting to see numbers of DTV's issued. There are circa 100k Retirement Visas
If it is abused such as people working in Thailand illegally where a work Permit is required then it may bring unwanted attention onto it. I can also see price pressures on housing at the lower end of the market in places like Chiang Mai - the places that Thais normally rent. It is a great visa for those wishing to do remote work but 5 years for a handful of hospital appointments seems a bit lax. The MFA who issue the DTV are explicitly covering their backs. They state clearly on their website they issue the visa, but immigration has the final say on entry and extensions.
exactly... it.has been issued for.a real people need to work remotely in Thailand as a nice place to live and work from
But it is as we.are noticing, misused and brought many broken people in and hope it will grab the attention of this very important impact on the land and people.
You have highlighted very important point Greg.. thank you for being fair discussing this here
I spoke a couple of times with Thai ex colleagues about DTV. They are all University graduates working at large global companies in professional roles ie engineers, project managers. They thiught DTV OK of it brings benefits to Thailand. For workaytion they thought minimum income brought into Thailand same as Work Permit rules. For Soft Power DTV should last as long as attendance at the soft power activity
lots of DTV applicants have only borrowed the money to get the visa, and returned it once the visa was granted, and have no intention of doing an extension, and will just do a border bounce, because of the fear of being asked to show any evidence again, I think it just attracts younger less irresponsible people, I don't understand the Thai governments thinking with the DTV, it just basically is allowing anyone free access to Thailand for 5 years, whether they have money or not, I don't think it's a good thing for Thailand overall.
There is nothing to stop Immigration Officers asking that people to prove they still qualify for the DTV at entry points ie not just for extensions. Nothing is clear either way as of yet.
Recently, a good muay thai gym quoted me B6,000 per month for 6 months plus an admin fee (inc some training equipment) for 1 training session a day, for 6 months. It's not a rip-off because it's a good gym but it's not the package I was looking for.
Another famous gym, east of Chiangmai quoted me B11,000 per month for 6 months. Lots of champion students/fighters but it's not for me.
For Ed visa is 100 % to approve, but DTV visa - It depends on the embassy whether to approve or not because each country has different decision criteria.

Just cut out the drama you may have with your application with a "cheap" option and go with
