TLDR : Answer Summary
The Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh will switch to an e-Visa application system starting October 8, 2024, with the last day for walk-in applications being October 4, 2024. There are questions regarding the applicability of this new system, particularly whether it covers Non B visas in addition to DTVS, and some believe this applies only to applicants from Cambodia.

all embassies and consulates are going to E-Visa online only soon, it is a much better system

Is it? I was under the impression that in person applications are better, hence my rush to get mine in before the switch. That being said, it depends on the consulate being used as they're all different. The ones in Australia, parts of Europe and some of the ones in North America are particularly efficient despite being on the e-visa system.

they’re all going online only, it’s only a matter of time

I think this announcement is only for those coming from Cambodia.

Phnom Penh is in Cambodia and no, it's for everyone. If you need to apply for a visa in Cambodia, the last day is next Friday. After that you can only apply via the evisa portal (beginning the Tuesday after that).

what is the big difference here for those who wish to issue the DTV in Phnom Penh?

@Netanel ******
the e-visa online portal is directly run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. All e-visa application are submitted through this portal:
****************************

This likely means that the various different document requirements, imposed by the foreign consulates will be scrapped in favour of the standard requirements of the MFA.

I don't see how this can be circumvented, since there's only one portal, with no consulate-specific features.

It will benefit some (no need to show months of bank transaction history), but may hinder others (processing time, loss of fee if not legit, etc.).

Applications are still be processed by the remote consulates/embassies, so they are likely to still have some discretional authority.

tnx, do you know when it will be implemented in Ho Chi Minh as well?

Sorry, I can't help with that one. Perhaps others have posted or commented about it. It does seem though, that multiple places are switching in October.

Well, go now or you'll have to deal with the e-visa system, which could take a lot longer than what it's taking now (or not, time will tell).

Another difference is you'll have to pay upfront.

E-Visa is way easier and faster, got mine here in Canada easily in 2 days, no brainer

@Netanel ******
the big difference is you have to be IN cambodia to apply, and you have to stay in cambodia for the processing until the visa is either approved or denied and if it's denied you lose the application fee

This thing is for a Non B visa as well? Or only for DTVS?

All visa types

@Paul ******
But you need to be in Cambodia? Or you can apply for them from Thailand? 🤔
Tod *********
@Rob ********
you need to be IN the country where the thai consulate is when you apply. SO you go to cambodia, you apply, upload your documents, proof you're IN cambodia (visa/entry stamp, hotel booking) pay and wait until you get an email stating the visa is approved or rejected

AND

Bad news is if it's rejected you lose the application fee

If you're going to get a visa from Phnom Penh get after it and use the in person walk up process they have now

Is this official announcement from their website?

If in doubt go to their website.

It's on their website now. My point is, being Thailand, Facebook is used a lot. If something is posted by an embassy there, it's official.

Yes from their Facebook page. Check it out. Nothing mentioned on their website yet but it's Thailand. Normally, most announcements of this type are more likely to be shared on Facebook first, with websites updated later.
