Answer summary
A British citizen's DTV (Director of Tourism Visa) application was approved after one week of submission, prompting discussions on visa-exempt entry limits and extensions in Thailand. The community clarifies that while there is no cap on visa-exempt entries by air, extensions are limited to two within a one-year period. Confusion surrounding alleged new rules and immigration officer discretion creates ongoing debates, emphasizing the importance of returning home between visits. Overall, a consensus suggests that genuine tourist intent and evidence of travel history are crucial for re-entry without issues.

At the moment there’s limit on the number of times but your total length of stay may become a problem.
Under the new rules, yet to be actioned, you can only get two visa exempt entries per calendar year.
EDIt: this was based on an official publication that I have since found is out of date.
Ralph Tyson there is no such limit for visa-exempt entries. There only is a limit of two extensions for visa-exempt stays within a one-year period. And there is no such "one-calendar-year" rule
Ralph Tyson there is a limit of TWO extensions on top of visa-exempt entries within a rolling one-year period. . . . . .However there is NO LIMIT for visa-exempt entries. STOP spreading BS
Ralph Tyson "Under the new rules, yet to be actioned, you can only get two visa exempt entries per calendar year" . . . THIS IS ABSOLUTELY WRONG !!! This is BS!
Ralph Tyson This is just wrong. Please don’t post like you are stating facts when you are just misleading people. Someone will read what you wrote then post their own comment somewhere else stating the untruth and it just goes on. If you don’t know something don’t pretend you do.
Peter Eastgate It was based on the fact that they seem to be returning to the pre 2024 rules. I found it in an official publication that’s why I posted it. Since then I’ve found that the document is old and probably not relevant.
Graham Seal It wasn’t specific on that score but I suspect that’s how immigration implemented it. I know I entered by air at least three times in 2018.
Ralph Tyson this is not correct. The 2 entry limit is for Land Crossings only. You can enter via Air multiple times visa exempt for 30 days with a 30 day extension for ฿ 1900. It only becomes an issue once you are in country at around 150 or so days. At that point they may start questioning your presence as not being vacation. No hard rule on that part
Tom Pola it's 157 now - 60+30 then 60+7. Assuming the visa exemption of 60 days is maxed out. Whether this is still the case or not under the new proposal is currently anyone's guess.
