What are the costs and procedures for PCR testing under Thailand's 'Test and Go' scheme?

If you enter Thailand with the Thailand Pass under the "test-and-go-scheme" after the 22.12.2021, you are obliged to undergo two RT-PCR-tests, one directly after arrival, which is covered by the price you pay for the one-day-quarantine hotel, and a second one on day 5 - 7 after arrival. This second test is said to be free of charge. But this is only true if you use one of the 95 "government-designated facilities", which are listed in a publication of the Ministry of Public Health. But all these hospitals are located in Bangkok and some holiday resorts, but not in the region of Udon Thani, where I am staying. So I had to use the only available facility, the Bangkok Hospital in Udon Thani, at my own expenses. They exploit their exclusivity and charge 6500 Baht for this test. So be aware of these additional costs, if your destination is outside the tourist areas.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand under the 'Test and Go' scheme after December 22, 2021, travelers must undergo two RT-PCR tests. The first test, upon arrival, is covered by the hotel cost for one-day quarantine, while the second test, ideally free, may incur charges if done outside designated areas. Travelers in non-tourist regions, like Udon Thani, may face costs - for instance, Bangkok Hospital Udon Thani charges 6,500 Baht for the second test. It's important to check the locations of designated hospitals to avoid unexpected expenses.

Oh dear. Pants pulled down. You dont need that 2nd test, it's advisory, no checks or cares.

@Steve ******
I was given a form for the second test, so does that mean it’s official paperwork?

Does anyone have a link for the designated hospitals. Please

I never understood this. I arrived via Phuket on Dec 26th. Tested negative on arrival, but am now in BKK after 4 days. Am I just supposed to walk in to a specific place and say "test me for free"? People say they were given forms for their 2nd test, but the passengers on my flight were never given a form. 🤷🏾‍♂️

What would happen if you didn't do it? I can't imagine they will chase around every tourist that doesn't do it.

@Baron ********
Nothing would happen because it's not needed. It's advisory for your own safety and peace of mind

I have not done my 2nd pcr test, we are in Phuket, going back on the 9th of January

@Jay *********
You mean, you missed the day it should have been or you have not yet got to the 2nd PCR? I can see a lot of tourists not doing it as why risk the holiday. I saw one lady tested positive, no symptoms and now locked up for 10 days of her holiday.

@Baron ********
yes missed the day to do it, just don't think they will check

Im not sure. I received a letter from hotel and government that said if we don't do it we risk to pay 20,000 baht. The problem is booking the location, apparently 20 people from my hotel showed up at one site and there were 300 people waiting so it was a disaster. We just booked our own PCR test outside because we also needed it for the flight.

we are going to just book a pcr for the flight home, had no warning letters

We are going back to England on 7 January 2022 we are in pattaya. Does anyone know where we can get a cheap PCR test to go back to England. Thanks
Baron *********
@Wayne ******
as long as your airline don't have specific requirements, you only need the Antigen test which is quick and cheaper for going to the UK.

I got the Antigen before travelling on Qatar. I wouldn't be waiting until I got to the airport, but I did see that there is a 15 min results with certificate advertised at Swampy. I don't know anyone that has used it though

thank you...

@Wayne ******
I heard Ethiad require PCR according to their policy, so make sure to check with the airline. Once at the UK there seems to be no checks, so its mainly for check-in

@Baron ********
ok thanks..

@Wayne ******
not sure of the price but I assume the Bangkok hospital in Pattaya will do them.

I'd be grateful if you keep me updated on this as I have two friends in Pattaya right now who will need to get this done.
Andy *********
I can't remember the one that you needed before the UK but I'd go for that Wayne thats the one you need to fly.
Wayne *******
@Andy ********
1500baht that is brilliant. It's in pattaya. The hospital wants 3500baht
Andy *********
@Wayne ******
thanks for that I have sent it on to my mates out there 🙌 👌

@Wayne ******
that's brilliant mate. Will that cover the lateral flow test required 72 hours before departure?
Wayne *******
@Andy ********
a PCR test is better then a lateral flow test. I am not sure which test you need to get from Thailand to get back to England, some people say you need a PCR test some say a lateral flow test, I didn't want to get a lateral flow test get to the airport and they say you need a PCR test you can't fly.. it's so confusing and I'd 48 now before you departure..
Colleen *********
Wow that's very useful info. Thank u for the pdf doc also

@Colleen ********
Not really, it's not needed, take an antigen test, 60tbt

Steve, be careful not to spread outdated information. The Antigen-Test was sufficient until 21.12.2021. Then the rules changed. Now it is said, "passengers who arrive in Thailand under Test and Go and the Sandbox Programme must undergo their 2nd COVID-19-test using the RT-PCR technique (not ATK self-test) at government-designated facielities (no additional costs)". And at the hotel, where I spent my 1-day quarantine on 25.12./26.12. to wait for the result of the first RT-PCR test, I had to sign a form which said "this person must go to do the RT-PCR test on day 0-1 and 5-7 after arrival at designated lab centers.". I think it would not have been wise to ignore it.

@Peter *********
It's true but there is no checking method for the 5-7 day test. It's for your own safety

@Steve ******
thought you were supposed to have a pcr test not a rat
