You need to understand that the reason it is so difficult is because of the number of people in the past who have abused the system. Once you get into Australia it can be very expensive to remove people. So they have a history for every country that you use to create a barrier for all the people with that nations passports. The majority of illegal immigrants in aust came in through tourist visas. So they just make it harder and you have to prove yourself. Makes the Thai system look very easy by comparison. They didn't make it this hard without a reason in aust. Having said that the people processing the applications and designing the process can be very fickle. So you have to imagine those people don't know much and supply information that allows them to tick a box. It is like a job interview. 50 years ago it was too expensive for people from poor nations to get a plane ticket to Aust. I know people who sold everything bought a one way ticket and arrived with a tourist visa and worked illegally for up to 10 years. With that money saved they bought a ticket home went to aust immigration and they gave them a letter to show at the airport and let them go. They lived happily ever after in their country of birth. So now...this is what happens as things have changed.

It's pretty hard to stomach when you can't bring your gf to Aus because of these a/holes in immigration. But they'll gladly accept your $200 visa application fee.

We own 2 houses, a business, 2 cars, and pets in Thailand and my husband was denied American visa for the same reason. I guess they think we are just going to abandon our lives in Thailand and move to America because it’s just so great there 🙄
