Hi All, Bit of a read, hope it helps

Just a update to explain the difference between doing your homework and reality in Thailand and how it can so easily go wrong if you don't persist.

Applied for my Non O with the intention of retirement from my home country, Evisa app, No issues.

However flight day quickly approached and still processing,

Flight day, flew to BKK, on arrival quickly checked emails, Nothing.

Entered the kingdom Visa exempt.

One day later received confirmation Non O approved. Okay I'll have a holiday in Bangkok for a month head to Udon Thani where I have a home, Pop over to Lao, for a few days and activate my Non O on the way back in,

Did it, No problem at all, Stamped in for 90 days.

Couple days to get my bearings then Im off to open my bank account for my 12 month extension in 80 days time,

Heard one of the K banks were expat friendly and they have a great english app.

Went to the nearest branch with everything required to be to be told, Sorry, you not have retirement visa.

Thought Omg am I gonna be deported,

Went to Immigration to confirm everything was sweet and the IO confirmed No problem

Next day went to a larger branch same bank, Sorry we cannot accept your secondary form of identification. Now I'm really starting to worry. Left the bank pretty stressed by this stage.

Looked online and suddenly noticed that the residence certificate can be used as proof of Address, Identity and Visa status

Returned to the initial branch, used translator to calmly explain my findings to the customer support officer, he looked it up, He spoke to a colleague and APPROVED.

As they say in Thailand,

KEEP FIGHTING 🙏

A user shares their experience of applying for a Non O retirement visa while facing unexpected challenges upon arrival in Thailand. After entering the country visa exempt, they received their Non O approval but encountered issues opening a bank account due to visa status confusion. This led to stress, but persistence and the use of a residence certificate ultimately resolved the issue. The conversation highlights the importance of understanding visa processes and being prepared for bureaucratic hurdles in Thailand.

Flying in and out, to and from your home country for 30 days or so at a time are the patterns of a genuine tourist. You can use a visa exempt entry stamp if you qualify. Just be sure you have a return ticket to show your airline if they question you. It wouldn't hurt to have some accommodation pre-booked and the equivalent of 20,000 baht in cash when going through immigration

Wannikea Wanblee flying in and out 30 days (multiple times a year) is also, according to most governments, the sign of smuggling, doing business, and using the system for other than tourism.

Hence one reason why so many are being refused entry.

Buy a visa and that’s no guarantee

What is the real reason you are entering Thailand so many times in a Year?

Might be a good time to get the correct Thai Visa for your planned stays in Thailand with your partner.

If you are age 50+...get the OA or Non O Visa as a retiree, ( not required to be retired).

The OA does not require funds in a Thai bank account. Can use your home country bank account.

You don't rely on TDAC, that's the digital arrival "card" every foreigner has to complete, regardless of visa. What you "relied" on previously would have been a visa exempt entry stamp. Given your multiple previous entries already this year, I'd just buy a SETV online before you depart UK if I was you.

I had a friend literally exactly the same, his 3rd entry yes under 30 days they said NO ENTRY, he politely said this visit ive return ticket same as last time under 30 days, there clamping down so much 2 entries fine a 3rd one in any 1 year a visa, I know before you say why & what visa, seemly even a 60 day tourist visa or if your running back & forwards 6 month multi entry

Ive lived 25 years in Thailand even when my friend rang & said NO ENTRY i honestly thought he was joking, he said im not joking, but then it cropped up nearly 30,000 NO ENTRY in 1st 5 months of 2026

We know they constantly change things by the week or month really, will it come to must have a visa just to enter thailand, we'd all say never but who knows

As long as your stay is less than 30 days you’ll be fine. Maybe an issue is you’re using land crossings. TDAC is nothing to do with it.

Everybody does a TDAC but your history is fine as a tourist
