For long-term stays, what’s been your most stable visa strategy, and what pitfalls should new travelers avoid when transitioning from tourist to long-term visas?”
Answer summary
Travelers transitioning from a tourist visa to a long-term visa in Thailand should carefully consider their circumstances, as the best visa strategy varies. Key suggestions include selecting the right visa that matches your purpose—whether retirement, working remotely, or other activities. Common choices mentioned are the retirement visa for those over 50 and the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa), which offers longer stays for younger individuals engaging in specific courses. It's vital to avoid pitfalls such as underestimating the importance of having sufficient funds or picking a visa based on cost rather than suitability. Utilizing a visa agent is recommended for simplified processes.

The retirement Visa. Very straightforward to get set up thanks to the great service of my Visa agent (I would never do it myself, or anything involving immigration)
Depends on many things, you need to give more information? If you are under 50 and not married to a thai there are only a few long term visas available to you. Of those probably the DTV might fit best but can onky guess your circumstances
Most stable is the elite visa for sure and also the most expensive. If you are over 50 then the retirement visa would be the most stable for long term. The DTV visa has not being around for long enough to be considered stable for long term. Over the last 15yrs I have been living here all visas were revised either in terms of cost or requirements.
The correct long term visa is the one that matches the purpose of your stay in Thailand. Are you retired, over 50? Are you married to a Thai? Will you work in Thailand? Will you work remotely from Thailand? Are you under 50 but just want to chill out and relax?
If you're under 50, not married Thai or don’t work remotely, the easiest long-term option is now the 5-year DTV based one of the soft power options like cooking or Muay Thai courses.
