TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around the challenges of obtaining medical insurance in Australia for a fit to travel certificate, particularly due to new COVID-19 requirements for travelers entering Thailand. Participants share their experiences, noting the difficulty in finding insurance that covers overseas travel and COVID-19, with some expressing concerns about the high costs of necessary coverage. One user mentions finding a notably cheaper option that meets certification requirements, and the discussion touches on the impact of mandatory insurance on retirees and tourists.

I was getting quotes for my father which were $6000 AUD but these guys were around $700, and they supply the $100k usd covid certificate that you need
have you already purchased it? Looking for opinions.. already contacted them, price is reasonable but still waiting for them to explain me how to contact them in case of emergency
Try this company. They are definitely the cheapest I have found. No Australian insurance will cover what you need

I have just done a ring around. There are no insurers in Australia providing any medical insufficient overseas travel that covers COVID. Would like to know if someone has a solution.

They were talking about compulsory medical cover for all entries to Thailand ages before this virus, looks like its here to stay. Problems being as you get older the chance of insurance goes down and the price goes up.
It's going to be a major issue for retirees in the future.

Please be aware of the new requirement by the THai government of people needing to have Covid insurance. I’ve seen quotes of US$2700. So even if you’re Living in Thailand on retirement visa and you leave the country, don’t be surprised if you were expected to have this insurance. How realistic is it to think how many tourists are going to shell out this much money for a two week vacation to Thailand?
It's only a requirement at the moment to cover non Thais returning against covid 19. Tourists cant come for a two week vacation so doesnt apply to them.
