TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the process of opening a bank account in Chiang Mai, with various insights shared. While some participants recommend hiring an agent, others suggest that it isn't necessary if you have the required documents. Individuals have successfully opened accounts with an ED Visa and recommend just walking into a bank with your paperwork. Specific agent recommendations include Assist Thai Visa and mentions of Huahin visa services as well.

I'm always reading how hard it is to open an account, walked to a kasikorn few days ago and was out in 30 mins with my account.. ED Visa even.. as long as you have the documents you're fine.

It really depends on the bank, branch, province, and visa type.

Never hurts to try on your own first.

It can be slightly easier with ED than TR, or Exempt Entry.

Also would depend on if it's a 90 day, or a 1 year.

At the end of the day it's up to the staffs discretion.

If you have a Non-O you can do it yourself. January tried to help a friend. over 10 agents and would not help unless he had a Non-O or will be applying for a Non-O with them for 40,000 ish baht.

Why an agent. Just walk in with the required documents. Longer term visa over 1 year and confirmation of residency

in Pattaya, starting yesterday, policies have changed and you will again be able to open a Thai bank account on a touristic entry. However ONLY IF you meet following criteria: You need to intend to apply for the "change of visa type" to a 90-days Non-Imm visaclass, you need the confirmation of the Immigration office that you intend such and have deposited the application fee of 2000 THB, and you need to buy an insurance policy from the bank (which mostly is an accident or life insurance, worth 5000 THB) ALL THIS is updated info of today, from one of the big visa agents located in Pattaya
