What are people's experiences with extending a 6-month visa at immigration in Thailand instead of leaving the country?

Hey guys, asking for people's experiences only (I don't need financial advice from People wearing capes) ....have any of you chose to extend your 6 month period at immigration instead of leaving the country and re-entering? I keep hearing it's tedious but the evidence they will ask for is easy for me to provide in my case so I'm considering giving it a go.

How did this go for you? (Or anyone you know directly that's done it?)

Thankyou in advance 🙏

Commenters share varied experiences, noting different immigration office practices and past experiences with successful extensions but caution about potential difficulties.

I have read a total of two people who did this Yes they were successful but both said they would never extend in country again

I’m sure the posts would be on this page so a search may help

From memory one was very detailed

Following, I just leave, because I travel any way. But one day I may just extend. I saved everything I submitted in folder.

Highly unlikely to extend a DTV issued from Laos.

This will slightly differ depending upon which immigration office you go through, but most want to see updated versions of all documents. My understanding isn’t that it is tedious, but that some immigration offices really don’t like this visa and will try to find any reason to reject an extension

DTV_BegPecker I might pop down the immigration office and ask them what would be required and if it's something they would be comfortable with. It's Phuket in my case so Phuket immigration office. I can totally provide updated bank statements, employment docs and everything from the first time so might be worth a try.

Phuket REALLY doesn't want to process the 180 day extension of the DTV visa.

I can provide updates of the same evidence on request. Financial proofs, income and employment proofs (finances have grown since also), updated cover letters from both myself and my employer, tenancy agreement along with latest tm30, I speak Thai etc etc. do you think if I bring all of that in they would require anything else or do you think they'd consider it? Thanks in advance for your input here Stuart 🙏

You must have at least 15 days left on your current stamp even to think about applying. Go see the volunteers in room 101 and they can give you the hand out of what’s required.

/26 that's less than 15 days. Thanks for your help there Stuart you just saved me a wasted journey lol. Il get a same day return flight to Malaysia and do some shopping. Are they happy with same day returns? (Or is that frowned upon? I'm trying to be respectful to be IO process where possible)

doesn’t hurt to try. Just suggest don’t wait until last minute. They might ask you for a few extra documents, which require you to go back and forth to get. Apartment lease, etc.
