Hi everyone, I have just bought a new phone here in Thailand and would like to get it insured. I am from the UK but most insurance providers will not cover a phone purchased outside on the UK. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat from the UK is seeking advice on how to insure a new phone purchased in Thailand, noting that many UK insurance providers do not cover devices bought abroad. Comments suggest exploring travel insurance options that might cover electronics, express skepticism about the need for phone insurance in Thailand due to lower phone prices, and highlight concerns over the insurance industry practices in Asia.

Let me know if you find anything out overall insurance industry in Asia could use some disruption since I find most lacking key points in comparison to Europe.

Wth would you want insurance on a cell phone? Please explain. Cell phones here are extremely inexpensive. You will pay three times the amount for a phone with insurance. I really really don’t understand it. Do you like throwing money away?

If you are carrying any type of travelers insurance, there may be coverage for theft of it under "personal items and electronics".

You're welcome. Call your provider to make sure. There may be value limits, requirements of police report to confirm theft, proof of purchase receipts, etc.

If it's an iPhone, consider buying additional coverage (AppleCare+) for repairs in case you drop it(*oops*), the glass screen breaks, etc. Damage due to carelessness is usually not covered by travel insurance.

Why do you need to insure a £100 phone ?

House contents maybe if you live in Thailand.

Insurance providers don't care where you bought the phone if you can prove you bought it and the price paid.

hi Andy, my phone was a bit more expensive than £100 so would like to get it insured. I have reached out to a number of providers in the UK who have said they will not insure a phone not bought in the UK. If you know of one that will please feel free to share with me 😊
