Looking for some advice. I had a visa run scheduled to Malaysia for April 8th. The visa run package that we were purchasing just sent me a picture of a paper saying that the Thai consulate in Malaysia will be closed April 2nd till further notice. This is our first visa run. We heard we can make one to Cambodia, can someone recommend a company that is reputable that won’t break the bank? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
Due to the Thai consulate in Malaysia being closed from April 2nd, the user is looking for reputable options for a visa run, particularly to Cambodia. The comments suggest alternatives like Laos and Singapore, along with considerations for closures around the Songkran holiday. Suggestions include checking the status of the Penang consulate and using services in Savannaket, Laos or online applications for Singapore.

Savannaket Laos over the bridge from Mukdahan - Embassy opens from 9.00 to 12.00 pick up visa 2.00pm next day - Opposite is a copy shop run by Tony - he will complete all your documentation ofr 100 Bt - if you forget your photos he will do that too. Enjoy a couple of days in Laos.

I had fine experience in Vientiane. No problems.

Sorry Tod I got my Phuketts and Pattays crossed. He could fly to Mukdahan from Phukett and take the bus across.

you did read that he's in Phuket right?

Savannakhet is a LONG slog to get to for a tourist visa

Does any one know anything about this place in Satun Malaysia?

Ok so if Penang is not reopened by the 8th and Songkran is the following weekend what’s the best cheapest way?

I was only relaying what the officer at Padang Besar told me. He said there is no limit to the number of entries into Thailand from Langkawi.
Tod *********
@Mur***
, that is not correct, :/

People from 44 countries there is a limit of TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a year. And no matter what you call the Satun entry point it's covered under the "land entry" rule. The only entry points which have no official limit are the international airports.
Murray ********
There is no restriction on the number of times you get a visa excempt at Satun as its not a land border, its a sea border. This information is according to Sadao immigtrration officer.

yes I just got the 30 day extension here in Phuket town two weeks ago.

It's not an extra 30 day extension because you can't get those at the border. What you are doing is stamping out of thailand, stamping in&out of another country and stamping back into thailand to get a brand new 30 day visa exempt entry stamp (which you can extend for 30 more days at the immigration office for 1900baht).

Also keep in mind while a single entry tourist visa is VALID for 90 days from the date they issue it, all that means is you have that long to enter thailand and get stamped in for 60 days. You would have to get a 30 day extension from the immigration office for 1900baht to get 90 days in country out of it

Oh gotcha this is just and xtra 30 day extension not a three month tourist visa.

Yes, a border run. Leave Thailand,stamp in/out Malaysia and back into Thailand for a Visa Exempt Entry for 30 Days. You can do this twice a calendar year and it is not a VISA.

It say same day border visa run.

Singapore is a good choice because you apply and submit your documentation online. They send you an email when you're approved and can come to the consulate for your visa

@Mic****
, yep, you are wrong, Anyone can if they meet the requirements. There is a list of countries that can't use that consulate but most can
Michael ********
Am I wrong in saying only Singapore nationals can apply for a visa. Either way I have heard a lot of rejection stories about Singapore thai consulate.
Tod *********
What type of visa were you running for? You could go to the thai consulate in Kuala Lumpur

The thai consulate in Phnom Penh is not the most user friendly AND they take 3 days to get your visa to you.

Also keep in mind the holiday closures of the consulates, the 6th, and then the 13th and 16th for Songkran..

keep checking with the company, they'll know when the consulate is back open, and check this site too

ok thank you! We would leave in the mini bus the night of the 8th and be there on the 9th

Shay Wheeler, there is a high chance the thai consulate in Penang will be back open by the 8th (well NOT the 8th because that's Sunday, but the 9th ;) ) , they are only moving buildings and expect to be closed only a couple days starting on the 2nd.

We had it planned on the 16th but do to the holiday we had moved it to the 8th

Only affects the Penang consulate,

Consulate is moving to new building, nobody know how long it will take them to get back in business. You can go to KL or Singapore with flight from Phuket.
