Can anyone on here no much about getting agents to do your retirement get bank accounts ext 45000 bhart they sort it all
Answer summary
There is considerable discussion about the process of obtaining a retirement visa in Thailand, particularly regarding bank account requirements. Some expats share their experiences of using agents to navigate the process, highlighting costs and potential risks, like account freezes. Others advocate for doing it themselves by obtaining a Non O visa before arriving, which would allow them to open a bank account independently without incurring the costs of an agent. Key points include differing opinions on the effectiveness of agents, concerns about compliance with Thai banking regulations, and the necessity of holding 800,000 baht in a Thai bank for visa applications.

You only need 800k baht in the bank for 3 months..read the small print..opening a bank account is not easy ,I tried many times, I went to the agency on soi post office that most use, they sorted everything..

Contact the Thai visa centre who run this group. All the banks are refusing foreigners to open bank accounts. Immigration know this and are not happy with the banks. I had no choice but to ask an agent to help me open a bank account. 20 000 baht. Easy, no stress and done quickly. I did everything else myself.

I get it . What they are looking for is someone (an agent perhaps) to provide them with a bank statement showing they have enough funds to qualify for retirement visa.

It is not hard to do your own retirement visa as long as you have the correct paper work! Proof of address in Thailand, 800k in Thai bank, passport with correct stamps in it. Really up to you if you want an agent at an Estimated cost of 45k ++ baht. The retirement visa cost is 1900 baht, 1 year multiple entry visa 3800 baht.

Kevin Martyn i made 18% on the 800k i kept at home in 2025. That's 144,000 baht. Minus 18k baht for a renewal. Still up 126,000 baht. You got the same thing and you are down 5700 baht. Which would you rather have?

Todd McGowan I've always kept over 800,000 baht in a Thai bank

The big question is, are you using an agent to help you with the paperwork or to get around the banking requirements? If you are using an agent to get around the banking requirements, your visa will technically be invalid the minute the money is drawn out of the bank by the agent. Of course they don’t tell you that. Lots of people do it, but personally, I would follow the rules, learn to do it yourself and forever be free of paying an agent for something that is not that difficult to do once you get past the learning curve. Good luck with your decision

Paul Sayegh if you can't afford an agent, just say so. No need to throw up this gibberish and weak excuses. Go stand in line and wait your turn. But not everyone comes to thailand to stand in line at banks and immigration offices.

The Company that goes from ON NUT to Laos do it correctly. They take you to get a Non O in Laos, Savannakhet with bank statement from home country. Once you back in Thailand you can open your own Bank account and use an agent for extension or with own funding diy.

You can save a significant amount of money if you obtain a non O visa before entering Thailand AND open your own bank account without an agent. Then paying an agent to do some bank magic and get your 12-month extension of stay will cost a lot less.

baht or so should get 3 Months visa plus 1 year extension. Maybe 45k with drivers license

Todd McGowan you can get a Thai driving license by completing DLT online training and further training at DLT office. License cost is 505 baht which I believe is valid for 2 years. Training takes about 4 hours total

Kevin Martyn yes, you can. But why would anyone waste 4 hours of their life at a thai government office to save $100?

If you are wanting to get round the deposit requirements of the visa etc then you will be stuck with an agent, as I guess you will never have the funds.

I am sure Thailand will be looking at this sort of activity in the future and putting a stop to it.

Just like it sounds like they are asking more questions of people who have DTV’s when they enter.

If it is a matter of assistance on process etc, ask on here, it’s not that hard.

Bob D'Andrea come on Bob that’s just your opinion and it’s wrong.

Agent or being tied up at immigration for hours no thanks.

Stress free no frustration use an agent.

Your statement if you use an agent you are stuck with an agent in the future. Rubbish.

We used out own visa renewal process and that was it just a total waste of time and effort. We previously used an agent. Because of the last time no thanks and just recently we went back to the agent to do the renewal process with an agent.

No problem whatsoever.

Bank account frozen more rubbish.

Four bank accounts opened with four different banks nit one account has been frozen.

Do you actually know the reason why accounts were frozen in the first place?

Don’t listen to hearsay or read media reports get the facts from the source that’s if you have relationships with your bank manager.

Even an agent has posted a response to your posting which in true honestly has no merit whatsoever the agents posting makes your posting ridiculous.

Just stop with your opinion because it doesn’t count where you believe it does.

Bob D'Andrea yes, bangkok bank did it so, when someone on tourism opened the bank account in Bangkok bank through agent. However, when the account is frozen, agent should support to unfreeze it. Because it was opened through agent. I would avoid that agent who just indifferent from that frozen account of the customer. At least, they should help to unfreeze it.

Please specify the province and the bank involved.

Based on our experience, these incidents were largely isolated. It does not appear to be an ongoing issue, but rather a temporary wave related to a problem with a particular bank, and not connected to visa agents.

Our clients’ bank accounts are not frozen.

In fact, it’s quite the opposite. We often assist clients in resolving issues and helping unfreeze their accounts when necessary (most were using a specific bank, and did not use our services in the past).

Please avoid spreading misinformation.

We also assist customers who prefer to submit their applications on their own.

well stated I love it when someone posts their opinion based on their assumptions and the people who know hit him smack in the face with reality.

That particular person has a history of spreading his opinionated opinion which is utter nonsense,

Anyway great to see an agent business hit him right between the eyes I believe agents are fantastic in a complexed field
