A new rail connection is set to bring Bangkok and Ayutthaya closer, with SRT Bangkok Connex launching daily air-conditioned commuter services from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal on August 1.

Refurbished Japanese KIHA 40/48 trains will serve weekday commuters and weekend visitors, with schedules tailored to work journeys and historical sightseeing trips.

Promotional fares will start at 30 baht and reach a maximum of 50 baht during the first three months, running until October 31.

Answer summary
The discussion revolves around whether to hire an agent for visa applications in Thailand or to handle the process independently. Comments highlight the convenience agents offer, especially for complex cases, and the experiences of long-term expats who successfully navigate the process on their own. Points of contention include the perceived value of time versus cost, differing perspectives on agent reliability, and navigating Thai bureaucracy.

Tnis definitely better to have an agent. You can do a lot of things on your own, but if you hit a snag or something unexpected, you dont have anyone to ask for help. We didn't use an agent and I deeply regret it. My kids dependant visas were rejected and we have no idea why and no one to ask

It's really a personal decision, however if you are not really good with paperwork, and very good with details, or someone who just likes to basically wing it, would be something to consider. For me personally, my time is more valuable, so I use an agent. Each type of Visa, one's home country, and your specific details can matter in how involved this can be.

I've been doing my non-O extension and driving licence renewal myself for 15 years. Both are extremely simple and neither has ever taken more than an hour or two of my time in total. Thai bureaucracy is really very easy compared to some countries I have lived in and I don't understand the mania for using agents for everything here.

Extension: under 2,200B/year total. Licence under 1,000B/6 years total.

The great thing about DIY is that I know that the job has been done properly with no cut corners or dodgy deals.

Absolutely get an agent. I have used one when I first arrived as well as for every extension. Anything that involves immigration I will contact my agent! The cost is very reasonable and I can easily replenish the money, but I cannot make back the substantial time saved and stress removed. I get no satisfaction telling someone I did it myself. Outsourcing such tasks to people that do it all the time is just good business.

It is good to hear other people's experiences, trials, tribulations, etc, as there *could* be some fluid situations, missing req docs, pics, deadlines, but obtaining a visa for traveling, then an extension of stay is not out of common reach. Embassies and consulates abroad have instructions in English, and so do local immigration offices once in country. Agents are useful when requirements cannot be met... at a price, and not all monetary either. Then there are really easy visas with tons of perks and advantages: Elite visa, LTR... got the money?

You can definitely do it yourself, especially if you have time to research and understand the process.

For a first move to Thailand, having someone experienced can help you avoid common mistakes, check details properly, and make things run more smoothly.

The important part is finding someone who truly understands your needs—not just someone focused on closing a deal.

Sometimes having the right local support can make the whole experience much easier and less stressful.

using agent? or doing it by yourself? the answer is simple. If you have enough money, hire agent. why not? your time, even it is easy and simple, is more valuable than anything else? even when you retired? yes, one hour is like one second. every second is important and goes so fast. Enjoy your valuable time before too late. And, Thailand is a country where money talks a lot. I also would say, cooking at home is easy and cheaper than eating in a restaurant. but many people go to restaurant? why?? why wasting money?? cooking at home by yourself is cheaper and easy!! Eating in a restaurant is not only for buying foods but also buying time to cook at home. And no need to clean or wash after eating at home. it is an example for you, but as always, your time, your money, so you can spend it for whatever you want. no one bothers you. good luck.

I prefer to keep my passport and my Immigration status completely under my own control at all times and I encourage others to do the same. There was a recent post by someone with a Thai child who ended up with a 6 month overstay and a 5 years blacklisting thanks to an agent he trusted. No thank you.

Some people walk, some take public transport, some take a taxi, and some have a private driver. They all reach the same destination, but they choose differently based on their time, budget, and circumstances. Visa services are no different.

An agent is not necessary for everyone. If your case is straightforward, you meet all the requirements, and you are comfortable handling the process yourself, doing so may make perfect sense.

Our service is designed for people with complicated cases, previous rejections, limited time, or those who simply want a seamless door-to-door service with ongoing support.

For a standard yearly extension, our current fee is 14,000 THB, including the 1,900 THB immigration fee. That covers collection and delivery, application handling, access to our experienced team, and responsive support throughout the year. For many clients, the entire process takes just 5-10 minutes of their time - they message us to arrange collection, and we handle everything from there until their documents are returned.

We have operated for close to 20 years, maintain a large physical office and team, and have earned thousands of positive reviews. Much of our business comes from referrals and returning customers, which demonstrates that many people consider the service worthwhile.

We also operate communities like this to help people apply independently. We have never claimed that everyone needs an agent. For some, it is an unnecessary expense. For others, it provides valuable convenience, reassurance, and assistance.

It is ultimately a personal choice, not a one-size-fits-all decision.

Phil Clark While you are spending your time one or two hours at immigration bla bla, I am spending my time to enjoy great foods in a restaurant. For me, spending one or two hours at immigration is a big wasting my valuable time. I do not want it. Life is short. However, dont bother you at all. Enjoy at immigration things. PS) practically, I have one or two hours more than you have. I can spend this hours full for my self or what I want. Again, I do not want to spend my time at immigration things. I just do not want it, and think it is wasting my time.

Young I spend 1 or 2 hours at immigration, then I have another 10 to exercise, what is so critical about spending so much time in a gym, surely that can be done anywhere? You really are a sad bast@rd if your retirement revolves around a gym.

Alan Rothwell you don’t need to ‘suppose’, companies like
@THAI *****************************
advertise their rates. If you don’t know that already, you are obviously not keen on researching or understanding your position.

You ‘have seldom seen’ agencies recommended? You are here- so I assume you have a FB account. So you are well aware that Thai agencies are booming and strongly recommended by many.

And just sum up with the pathetic math. You would have to be a financial fool to park 800k at 1% or less in Thailand AND taking the exchange rate loss. Pretty easy to make 8% you money so 64k compounding annually for as long as you stay in Thailand.

And no lineups at the bank or immigration after you drive to them.

If you can’t afford an agent and don’t really value your time, immigration is great. Saves the pain of 16k annually for renewals.

But then again, you had to bring in the 800k and let it rot

Alan Rothwell Ok, great for you! make money and enjoy it! It is your time and your money. who can bother it? There are also some people like me too. Yes, that is my time, my money. Who bothers it? 😂😂😂
Yo***

Alan Rothwell I do not want to argue with you, because you do not understand my example in my comment. one hour in gym is an example of how people see time differently. Everyone has own value of time. My one hour time is much more than 100,000 Euro. Yes for me it is so. For you, maybe not. It is your time and your money. you can use it for whatever you want. I dont bother you. PS) please comment after you fully understand my context. Thanks.

Todd McGowan So, how much do you suppose the agent would charge ? I've seldom seen agents recommended for this sort of visa help, but for retirement "help", the number I've seen is about $1500-$2000.

So, a pure guess would be this would run maybe $500 ?

For ONE hour at Immigration How about 5 hours ?

How many people do you know who have EVER "earned" $1-500 per hour in their entire lives ?

Yeah, I don't know anybody who did either. 🤣

That is what s/he would be "earning" by doing it themselves, and giving up an awfully small amount of time, given they have SO much time to themselves.

Todd *********
Young Guys like this have not clue. They are cheap as borscht and no idea how to stop

Phil Clark we all have plenty of time. But most of us prefer not to waste it standing in line. Your 'argument' is idiotic at best. Enjoy the line. That's what you sign up for. Make a fun post about it so we can all chuckle
Alan **********
Alan **********
Young Do you spend 8 hours a day in the gym ? I'm guessing no. So what do you do in those other 7 hours ?

Point is, retirees have plenty of time, but some don't have plenty of $$$.

So, if it takes a retiree, say 5 hours, to straighten something like this out and s/hewould have paid an agent, say $500 to take care of it, that retiree just "earned (saved)" himself $100 per hour. Chances are s/he never made that per hour in their entire life.

Not a waste of time at all.
Yo***
Yo***
Phil Clark we have the same one hour time ( let me say so) but you spend it in immigration offices, I spend it in gym. the same one hour time, but different use. I surely prefer to use my one hour in gym for my health in peace instead of sitting in an immigration office and experience Thai non sense authorities ( in case). However, your time is yours. so you can spend yours for whatever you want. Dont bother it at all.

The DTV was very straightforward in my opinion. I did it myself and was approved. I personally can't see the value in an agent as Id be handing them everything that id be uploading in a straightforward online application - but for those that are tech or admin challenged, i could perhaps see some benefit to an agent.

Have you been to thailand before and explored the country to what its like to actually be here for a longish period of time? If you are planni g to move to thailand after doing some good research then I would look into doing it yourself but making sure you do some homework, this site has many people with great advise if you ask for it.

It all depends on you. An agent helps a lot because they know the ins and outs of you are a newbie to Thailand and relocating to here.

But if you want to try your way and find out the good and bad about doing it yourself it’s an experience. But don’t take what you know and compare to where you’re from. Because each country in the world runs different with different systems. Can be fast and can be slow. Can be efficient and can be irritating or just just annoying.

Try yourself!

If you are applying for a non controversial visa and have a clear cut case, and it wouldn’t be the end of the world if you were refused once for a stupid reason and had to start again, you probably don’t need an agent. But if you have circumstances that don’t fit nicely - I have the required funds but I had to move them from one account to another for reasons, I have the required income but it comes from multiple sources and needs explaining because reasons - or a delay would seriously matter, I would get an agent.
