If I have a 45 day stamp that is good until Feb 20, is there any wisdom in going for my 30 day extension before the 20th or can I wait til the 20Th? Secondly are there any simple options longer than 30 day extension (not talking retirement /marriage/ education) ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
It's advisable to apply for your 30-day extension before the expiration of your current 45-day stamp to avoid any potential issues, especially since the last day can bring unforeseen problems. Although there’s no requirement to go early, applying sooner is recommended as extensions simply add to your current stay. There are limited options for longer extensions unless one qualifies for marriage, retirement, or education visas.

You can go anytime before the 20th, and I would advise to go sooner rather than later.

Also, if you’re going to Jomtien or Si Racha immigration you will need to have some proof of where you are staying. A letter from the hotel or rental agreement. It’s not a requirement in Bangkok or Hua Hin, or it wasn’t a couple of years ago.

not in jomtien , pattaya tho

@Ru**
not what? There is no immigration in Pattaya, it’s in Jomtien!
Ruud ***************
@Simon *********
in jomtien you can’t do it anytime , they won’t give an extension stamp if the visa exempt stamp is 7 days or longer valid .
Simon **********
@Ru**
never ever heard that, and it is academic as the OP’s stamp is for
****
anyway. So where’s this immigration office in Pattaya?
Ruud ***************
@Simon *********
don’t be a smart ass here , I live here 12 years . I just mentioned pattaya because lots of people see immigration jomtien soi 5 Beachroad still as pattaya immigration 👋👋👋
Simon **********
@Ru**
I could not care less about how long you’ve lived here, and if you’re living here for that long how are you staying here now on exemption extensions?

I just looked in my passport and I extended my exemption in November 11 days before the due date at Jomtien immigration. So I conclude you’re talking BS.

@Simon *********
doesn’t matter you ever heard of it .

Immigration office is in jomtien soi 5 , I just mentioned pattaya there because lots of people still say pattaya immigration 👌

@Ru**
“Simon Robinson not in jomtien , pattaya tho”?????

Dont leave it until the last day.... go as soon as you can.... as others have said they add it on to your current one.

You can get the 60 day SETV then with a border bounce that will turn into 105 days…you will need ฿1,900 baht and apply outside of Thailand for the visa
Graham ******
@Jeremy *******
60 days SETV plus 30 days extension is not 105 days
Jeremy ********
@Graham *****
60 days plus a 45 day border bounce equals 105….

@Jeremy *******
As well as what Brandon has said, the visa exempt entry is scheduled to revert to 30 days from April 1st
Jeremy ********
@Roberto ********
there is a proposal out there for the 45 days to go until the end of the year…if you paid any attention to the covid extension cycle you will understand that this if it gets passed will happen in the last 3-7 days before it ends
Roberto *********
@Jeremy *******
So you're basing your advice on patterns associated with an emergency covid extension? I always think it's best to base advice on known facts, not on "ifs" and "buts". Absolutely no idea what a visa class 101 is. Are you sure you know what you're talking about?
Jeremy ********
@Roberto ********
do you understand TIT 🤣🤣🤣
Brandon ************
@Jeremy *******
what does this have to do with what the op asked? You can't get a tourist visa inside Thailand. And why would anyone ever get a tourist visa and then do a border bounce before getting an extension?
Jeremy ********
@Brandon ***********
uhh when you leave to get the visa you will do a strategic border bounce to extend the visa…visa class 101 for you….plus you failed to read the ops full comment…always pay attention to details
Simon **********
@Jer***
what???
Jeremy ********
@Simon *********
an SETV is a simpler option than retirement/marriage/education…wouldn’t you agree????
Simon **********
@Jer***
I honestly don’t know enough about SETV to comment. I have had a retirement visa previously but I didn’t bother renewing it as I travel in and out every six weeks or so, so I can just do the exemption on arrival. I am also entitled to the marriage visa now, but asking others the general consensus is to use retirement if possible.
Brandon ************
@Jeremy *******
you're not making any sense.

@Brandon ***********
ops words not mine: Secondly are there any simple options longer than 30 day extension (not talking retirement /marriage/ education) ?
Oannogn *********
Should now
Mitchell *******
You can go for it now. Some places have different rules etc, but take your 1900 baht, take your form, passport and go now. Plus, it gives you time in case you forget something etc.
Stuart *********
There are no options other than 30 days (other than those you mention for long term extensions).

There is no downside to going early as they add on the days to your current stamp.

You can leave it to the the last day if you so choose, but that might be risky is as much as you be unwell that day or have a tire puncture or something silly like that.
Brandon ************
You have no reason to wait. Fridays and Mondays are the busiest days at immigration so you're basically stuck going on one of those days now, you really should have gone earlier because if anything unforseen comes up it's easy for you to go into overstay. A tourist extension is added to the end of your current stay.

You can get one tourist extension for 30 days, there are no other extensions available to you unless you have Thai family.
Ruud ***************
@Brandon ***********
I was jomtien immigration few weeks ago and some didn’t get the extension yet because their visa exempt was valid longer then 7 days till expire . They had to wait and come back for the extension stamp . You seems to know quite a bit , so is this the new rule ?
Brandon ************
@Ruud **************
it's not a new rule. Jomtien has always been doing this. They are the most extraordinary immigration office in Thailand and make a lot of rules that don't exist anywhere else.
