Is there any issue with the visa run from Chong Chom to Cambodia for a multiple O visa holder?

This appeared on a Not Everything Else site and typically there was a single response before commenting was closed. The comment was that it was unconfirmed, but, as nobody seems to have tried actually contacting Troy Bakes, I did. He is stuck in Cambodia but I suspect his problems lie elsewhere than reentry being blocked due to time spent in Cambodia.

I have just got back from Chong Chom and I can assure everyone that there is no problem with the standard visa run for the purposres of a valid visa - mine a multiple O based on marriage. In and out in less than 20 minutes. Temperature checks on both sides and a squirt of free gel on the way back into Thailand.

New restrictions coming in from tomorrow for entry into Cambodia mind. Not confirmed as yet .... probably ;-)

TLDR : Answer Summary
A recent discussion highlighted a visa run from Chong Chom to Cambodia for holders of a multiple O visa based on marriage, noting that standard procedures were followed without issues. Temperature checks were conducted upon entry and exit, and the process took less than 20 minutes. However, there are new entry restrictions for Cambodia to be aware of, and differing regulations exist at various borders, such as Poipet, which has specific re-entry requirements.

I have the same visa as you Roger. I was looking at going to Chong Chom this week. I’ve been told the border is closed.

You could still do a run by air, to wherever is still open.

The 60 day "visit family" extension is an option in many but I think not all immigration offices, it may depend on your specific office. Usually you can only get this once I think.

You'd be able to do a full year extension after this, if you banked the required money with seasoning.

, makes me wonder how we would go on if all borders were closed. I presume it would be a case of asking local immigration office for advice.

It was my thinking also as my run was not due to the 20th.

Cheers. I might have to look at Laos. I don’t have to go until early next month. My way of thinking is to do it asap before more restrictions. Even if means me losing out with some time from my visa. If you get my drift.

It was not closed Sunday, although Cambodia has now issued restrictions on 5 nations, fortunately not including the UK. That said, the problem may be in getting there (see my latest post)

Chong Chom is not Aranyaprathet/Poipet. Different border. Poipet has long had a restriction on same day re-entry, this is actually an official regulation on the Cambodian side- you are meant to stay 24h minimum in Cambodia- but other borders don't seem to bother with it. This includes people with multiple entry non-Os based on marriage.

See for example:

Just messaged this Bakes fella with your info

, and apparently he tried again after 24 hours and got a 'denied entry by land' stamp. I suspect his problems run much deeper.

OK. Thinking about it, I use an agent at the Chong Chom crossing. He take 1500 for the Cambodian Visa and 300 for what he once described as the "exit stamp." Perhaps I've just misunderstood all these years.

Interesting. But these cannot be the only two cases in two years that get to be reported. Surely? And how does a Cambodian regulation affect Thai re-entry?
