Question: has anyone ever heard of an 'independent work permit' issued by certain countries that would allow a foreigner to legally work in Thailand? Other than diplomatic, I've never heard of such a thing but will stand informed if someone can explain.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The community clarified that there is no independent work permit recognized in Thailand. All foreigners wishing to work legally must obtain a Work Permit from the Ministry of Labor within Thailand.

Thanks, that's what I thought. Some outfit responded with this: "Many countries have independent work permits, so I posted that according to our global policy"

The Work Permit is issued by the Ministry of Labor inside Thailand.

If you want to work legally inside Thailand that is the one and only place to get a Work Permit.
