TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat is inquiring whether they can process their first marriage visa at an immigration office in Ban Dung or if they need to travel to Udon Thani for this service. A comment on the post asks about the current visa or extension status of the inquirer.
, for a marriage extension you do not need a police check. Go to immigration as soon as you get out, and get the list of documents you will need, and your wife should go with you everytime you go to immigration concerning this extension.
, they are very adamant about your wife being with you. It is pretty easy. It just takes allot of paperwork the first time, and keep copies of everything, as next year you'll only need to update the pictures, passport copies, and bank statements. This was my fourth year for marriage extension, but technically only our first marriage anniversary.....We got married on the auspicious date of February 29th four years ago...hehe.
, your money went into your account on Sept 28th, so it will be ready on November 29th. Immediately get your bank letters. There should be two, one stating it is your personal account, and another showing your bank statement showing how long the money has been in the account. Both letters will be on bank letterhead. By this time you should have all the other documents together. As soon as you get the bank letters, and you should get them the same day if you go in when they open, go to immigration with everything the next day, and try to get there at least an hour before they open so you are not there in the queue all day. After the time it takes to review all your documents, and pictures, and check everything, you will get an "under consideration" stamp to return in 30 days. At that point you are no longer under your 60 day visa, and must return on the exact date on that stamp. If there are some minor details that are being difficult to get, but they see you are seriously trying, and have the bank letters, they can give you a 30 day extension to get everything, at bt1900. They did that with me the first time as we were having a delay getting the rental owner's ID copy, and house book copy, as he'd just moved. Don't stress. If they see you are seriously getting everything, you will be fine, and as soon as you get your under consideration stamp, the visa time no longer means anything time wise.
thanks for the help. Looks like being prompt and thorough is the key. I've already called the wife and told her I will be on the early morning flight so we can go straight to imigration.
, that makes one set of documents easier as you don't have to deal with getting lease copies, and IDs of property owners if you rented😄. She could get a copy of her parents house book she is listed in. That can sometimes be difficult if they don't live close.
, you will be able to get everything needed very easily then. One thing that can help for the immediate future, is ask them if you can do your first 90 day report on the date you come back on your under consideration stamp. Your first 90 days will be close to that date. That can be needed to get the free residence letter from immigration you'll need to get your Thai drivers license, if you don't already have one.
, you do need your home country valid driver's license to get your Thai license. If it is not expired then you don't have to take the driving test, and, if you have a motorcycle endorsement on it then you don't have to take the motorcycle driving test either, as there are two separate licenses, and being somewhat rural, I suspect motorbike driving will be lots of your local travels.
, that will make it so much easier have both already. Just the residence letter from immigration, and the cheapo medical certificate, and your set document wise. You could get a residence letter from your embassy, but that can be expensive. As an example the US embassy charges US$50/bt1550 for the same thing. The only difference is immigration mails it to you instead of getting it the same day at the embassy, and the trip to Chiang Mai, or Bangkok to do it. That is why getting your first 90 day report done is important, as you can't get the letter from immigration until your first 90 day report is filed.

I used a bangkok solicitor for all paperwork till now but they said I need to register visa where I live or will mean going bangkok every 90 days to report
, that is why you will go to Udon. After you get your extension, you should be able to do your first 90 day report. That will save you going back for your first one. Some say you can do the first by mail, or online, but it is not absolutely the same everywhere. After the first one then you can do it by registered mail, or online (when it works..lolol). This is why for the first time, if they let you do it at the 30 day consideration stamp date, it can save you a trip, and they should as it will be real close to the 90 days date after you entered Thailand. Be sure to ask, as if by chance it is over the 90 days, it could cost you an extra bt2000 fine. You will be very close to that first 90day mark
