TLDR : Answer Summary
The query about whether an individual aged 74 can apply for a Thai marriage visa elicited a consensus from the comments that there are no age restrictions for applying based on marital status. Multiple responses affirmed that such advice is incorrect and suggested considering a retirement visa as an alternative, particularly when financial requirements differ.

Just plain ridiculous comment, explain how a retirement visa is 'safer' than a marriage visa when visas are absolutely nothing to do with any potential marriage breakdown.
Jeff Meyer Absolutely safer. After the marriage has run its course do you want to have your future life in Thailand determined by the whim of a moody female? It's certainly smarter to be on an independent Visa.
happy with my decision and will run with it. Certainly a better life than my previous 49 years of marriage and she finished up with everything lol i had
Alexey Shipulin Why is it 'better'? For a start with a marriage visa you don't need to tie any money up if you transfer just 40k a month into Thailand, (65k for retirement) - how is it better? Then of course you go on to suggest doing it illegally so I think safe to ignore your advice
In the unlikely event that someone at immigration directly told you this, thats because they cannot get kickbacks from marriage visas but can from retirement. They are always trying to convert people for that very reason. Just politely tell them thanks, but no thanks.
