Quick question please - does anyone know if there’s a “you must enter within X days of getting your DTV” rule?

I know the METV is valid for 6 months but you must make a first entry within 3 months, meaning I was going to wait until late July to apply for that given that my flight lands in BKK on 10th Oct (and 3 months before that is 10th July). Then I found out about the DTV, which would be much better for me.

Does the DTV have anything similar? Or can I just start the application now?

No, but the 5 year validity clocks in from the approval date, so if you enter say 12 months later, you'd be wasting one year.

If you apply and put dates further than 90-days away in your application, the embassy will not process your application.

But once you actually have the DTV, it's valid for 5 years. There's no requirement to enter, ever. You can wait 4.5 years to enter if you want. It's valid until the date on the visa.

Thanks! So based on your reply combined with the replies above, I’m a bit confused… did the guys above say they were going to enter within 3 months but didn’t, just to get the DTV sorted. Or?? ie it sounds like they applied much more than 90 days, but still got the visa

I’m not in a desperate rush to apply/enter - the only deadline I’ve got is the free cancellation date for my accommodation that I’ve booked already.

I’d rather “know my fate” before the deadline, so that IF it’s a rejection I can cancel the accommodation and not lose my money.

normally an actual plane ticket is not part of the application. They just asked for your planned entry date. So some people say they're going earlier then they actually are. Others have plans change or fall through after receiving their visa.

I got my dtv approved in january but didnt enter thailand until june and had no issues.

Did you tell them you wouldn’t be entering until MUCH later… or you implied you were entering soon, then didn’t?
