TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thailand Embassy in Washington DC is currently issuing Non-Immigrant Visa Category O for individuals with Thai family connections. Travelers have successfully obtained this visa, although the process involves meeting specific COVID-19 travel restrictions and quarantine requirements. Those eligible can also apply for a one-year extension of stay once in Thailand.
As stated non immigrant O visas based on having a Thai wife or child are being issued. Once you’ve jumped through all the hoops that the CofE and flight rules require and have done your quarantine you are free to travel to “most” areas of Thailand. If you meet the financial requirements you are eligible to apply for a years extension of stay. No change in the rules once you’re here, just a pain in the arse trying to get here.
