Hi all,I thought some maybe interested in a reply I received from the Sydney Consulate regarding Thai-language course for the DTVisa.

This is a direct cut and paste of the reply I received from them today.

Good Afternoon,

The Thai language course is suitable to apply for Destination Thailand Visa (DTV). Please make sure that you have provide prove of confirmation to attend the activity, the Thai language course (such as receipt, the letter from course provider etc.)

-You must remain in Australia during the visa approval process.

-You are required to stay in Australia until your visa application is processed.

Kind Regards,

I have gone off the DT Visa idea, but this maybe of help to someone.šŸ™

So all the experts that critised my post, know what I mean Mr. Stanner, your quote to me, "what don't you understand" unquote.

Still pushing huh George? Just because one embassy does it doesn't mean another will. And you are taking John's comments out of context but....

Not pushing mate, but I took offence to his opening line. "What don't you understand," Ignorance becomes him. If I'd been replying to a comment like I made, which was. I know a guy who got the visa by booking on a Thai language course, then my reply would of gone like this. Oh! I wasn't aware that you could get the visa on booking a Thai language course! Not, "what don't you understand". So you know what stick that in your pipe and smoke it and while I'm at it, what business is it of yours?

And that's when he answered "What don't you understand?"

You are the one that made a big deal out of your miscommunication

So I've just emailed the embassy in the Netherlands asking them if language school is also accepted. They replied with an pdf regarding all the visa's they have. The DTV one did not say language course unforteneley. So for now i would not take the risk and try to get an DTV based on this type of softpower.

I understand your concerns, but just because it isn't listed doesn't mean its not acceptable for application.

@George ******
No the PDF uses E.G. and then stated the activities but it's a shame if you lose the money right. But maybe in the future they will change this?

Ok, point taken, but I don't listen to speculation only to fact.

yes great news. What is more getting into a culture than learning to speak the language?

Different Embassies, different ā€œrulesā€

Some have been advised to get a ED visa for language school.

As always with visaā€™s it is up to the discretion of the Immigration Officer, what gets approved, and what is rejected.

im already at thai school now so if possible i would go to continue with learning the language at school. Ive sent an email to the embassy in the Netherlands if language school is valid.

I have decided the retirement visa is the way I am going to go now. So wonā€™t find out for you sorry.

@Sam ****
may I ask what the deciding factor for retirement visa was for you?

we are on that now and thinking or switching to DTV

seriously still a tough call for us. But we are sceptical of the requirements going forward. Nothing set in stone for the DTvisa. But more critically for our personal situation, we are only home one month when we go back. And one requirement for the DTvisa is that you must remain in Australia until the visa is granted. A time issue really. Where with the retirement, I understand we can come in on a visa exempt if the visa doesnā€™t come through in time, then we can go fora holiday outside of Thailand when the retirement comes through then come back in and activate it. Stupid here booked our flights before I realised our visa exempt days were over. The insurance we need to buy for the retirement is app A$300 plus visa A$300. DT visa A$600. I know you get 5 years DT visa. But maybe if rules change and you have to keep buying courses every 6 months, that could get expensive and doing the courses would definitely impedance our travel flow. Wow that was long winded.Apologies.

@Sam ****
much appreciated!

We are discussing similar reasons.

Itā€™s the 800k THB sitting useless in a thai bank account thatā€™s steering us away from continuing with the retirement visa.

What!? I was told I couldnā€™t do this.

Thanks for the info. Iā€™d be interested to hear how an actual application goes when you do it. Iā€™ll use it as my backup.

I sent in my freelance work application on weekend just gone. Waiting for approval. Fingers crossed!

I guess if it comes from them itā€™s likely to be the same everywhereā€¦?

yeah there is a direct email to Canberra I have been using since I found out, because I live in Cairns, I have to use Canberra. Only NSW residents can use Sydney.
