How long does the DTV approval process take at the Chicago Consulate and what should I be aware of?

How easy is the DTV approval process at the Chicago Consulate in general? How long does it usually take for a response after sending in all the documents? Safe to assume bank statements for three prior months or do they ask for six months? Anything to watch out for as we aim (with spouse) to do this later in 2026. Wondering if the Chicago Consulate accepts appointments in person or is the whole process online? Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV approval process at the Chicago Consulate generally involves an online submission of documents. Responses typically take between 10 to 20 business days after submission, with some applicants noting a wait of 3-4 weeks. It is advisable to provide bank statements for the last three months, although it is wise to check if six months are necessary. The consulate no longer accepts in-person appointments unless an interview is specifically requested, which is rare. It's also suggested to follow up via email or phone if you have not received feedback by your expected timeline.

I was in Chicago July 2025. I used ISSA Visa Bangkok. It only took four days.

The entire process is online unless asked for an interview post submission of docs. They can take anywhere from 10 -20 business days for approval.
