Is $1800 fee for retirement visa for 2 too expensive? TIA.

Positive comments only please
Answer summary
There is a significant debate in the community regarding the cost of $1800 for a retirement visa for two people. Many find it excessively high, citing that the standard cost is around 1,900 THB (approximately $55) for the visa itself. Comments suggest that if this amount includes additional services (like bank account setup and other processing fees), it may justify the price. However, numerous users recommend handling the application personally to avoid high agent fees, arguing that it should not take much time or effort if done correctly.

Yes, it is. Anything more than 20K baht is expensive. 20K baht should include funding the money into an existing bank account, multiple re-entry permits, and conversion from Non-O to one year extension.

I think it is too expensive it depends. First is it $1,800 USD or CAD there is a big difference.

My first retirement Visa I got 5 years ago cost me $35,000 THB. That is $1060 USD at today's rate. It got me 3 months NON O which you must get first. Then 12 months retirement visa. 15 months in total. They are charging $50,000 $1514 USD to do that today.

The second year it cost me $18,000 THB $545 USD but you only have to renew the retirement visa. I understand you can get that done for $15,000 THB $454 USD or less these days.

Since they changed the entry rules, I stayed 5 months last year , what is the best way to stay that length? In the past I got a 90 day tourist visa and then went to Bali and re entered and was covered but with only two entries allowed in a calendar year, I may not be able to do that. Any advice?

well, if you did not enter on a 90-days Non-Imm-O Visa, the only way to get a bank account opened, the 90-days Non-O issued and the subsequent 1-year extension on top of it, is paying the agent "tea money" because you would be violating too many rules. Thai Immigration will thank you velly mutt for supporting corruption. And YES, this costs up from 60,000 Baht or 1800 US Dollar. . . if you had entered on the correct visa, it would only cost you 5000 Baht to get a bank account opened, you would have transferred 800,000 THB into it, and for only 1900 Baht you get the retirement 1-year extension issued. YOUR BAD you didn't follow the law but choose to pay tea money

Is that in baht if so 1800 divide by two is only $27.31 in USD each.. is it right to do

IMO using an agent to sort this and your 1 year extension isn't a bad idea to understand the requirements without the stress, if you have everything that qualifies you naturally from the start, do your following years by yourself. If you are really good with documents and can endure some inconvenience then do it all yourself from the beginning, don't let the agent short cut anything or else you will be stuck

There's not enough information here for anyone to properly advise you.

Please provide a few more details, including:

* Your current visa status

* Whether either of you already has a bank account in Thailand

* Whether you are currently in Thailand

* Nationalities

If you only need a yearly extension our fee is around 14,000 thb (so it would be 28,000 for two).

if you don't have a bank account and any experience on the process application.. i think it is unavoidable to find an agent to do all for you.. normally speaking.. these agents can only do it in Pattaya or outside of Bangkok.. if you do live in Bangkok.. you cannot transfer the visa to Bangkok even after the first visa is over . You will need to start a new application in Bangkok all over. Yet by then you already have the 800k deposit in your bank. The application becomes much easier
