For fun in Both Bkk and Pattaya for first time songkran. April 13 to 16 Bkk. April 16 to 20 pattaya. Is that a good plan ??
Answer summary
The discussion centers on whether it's a good idea to split the Songkran festival experience between Bangkok and Pattaya. Many comments suggest that while Bangkok can be crowded and hectic during Songkran, Pattaya offers a more vibrant and extended celebration, making it a preferable choice. Some contributors recommend dedicating the entire holiday to Pattaya for a more enjoyable experience, citing the chaos and excitement of water fights there. Others appreciate smaller towns for a more laid-back but still fun Songkran atmosphere, while the overall consensus leans towards starting in Pattaya and possibly visiting Bangkok afterward.

I prefer it in the little village I live in Ban Hong He Kalasin not as crazy but great fun with the people I live by and some falang friends as well most it lasts is two days and that's enough 😁🍻🍻🍺🙏
For me one or two days of fun is enough. Pattaya has several spots you could hit them all in 3 days but I suspect after day 2 you will get bored with it.. Its a lot of fun but at the end of the day.... foreigner Songkran is nothing more than a very huge water fight (play).
Also, I only ever see foreigners getting aggressive with water... Huge canons, "I will get you" attitude.... Most Thai people 'play' water and not water fight... They get each other wet a little.
Maybe 2 days - pattaya songkran, 2 days Thai songran, BKK is fun and as fun as Pattaya but BKK has huge traffic and bigger crowds. Khao san road, is should to shoulder there is no walking, its just a huge mass of people wiggle-- not so much fun.
If you are going be spending that much time playing with water my advice would be go to a pharmacy or clinic and take an antibiotic as a precaution. Infections are rife during Songkran. You could be out of action for a week or more with a bad infection.
Andy Oswald Good Plan Andy...And If You Go To Chiang Mai, Stay WAY AWAY FROM THE MOAT, It's Full Of Rats & Sewer Water ! That's Where Some Go When They Run Out Of Real Water !
All beach road is closed for a water fight, if you love getting soaked and mingling with thousands of people, music and chaotic traffic then dont miss it!
Brilliant to many, hatred by expats who generally done it when younger and leave town!
Steven Kureiji Just reverse what you had planned. Songkran in Pattaya is complete madness.... I'm 76 and I still love it. Beach road and second road go crazy... Most of the Sois in both cities will make sure you stay wet. Songkran starts on my birthday and I always make the best of it!
Honestly, I wouldn't recommend Bangkok at all during Songkran, especially if the goal is fun and a festive atmosphere.
Bangkok during these days is characterized by huge crowds, heavy traffic, bustle, and fatigue after just 2-3 days.
Yes, it's a big place, but it's more of a "see-see" experience than a true day-to-day experience.
If you're looking for a truly fun Songkran, I'd recommend
going straight to Pattaya and spending all 7 days there. In Pattaya, Songkran isn't just one day of chaos, but a whole week of pleasure. So my advice is to not spread yourself too thin, but to choose one place and experience the holiday to the fullest.
And Pattaya is better suited for this than Bangkok
