I done my last 90 day in person after being out of the country . Just attempted another report online within the correct time frame but was rejected and asked to report in person . Is it worth another go online before I make the trip ?

So you are applying from 14 days before the due date down until one week before the due date? And you're using the exact address that you used on your tm30 and or on your previous 90-day report that you did in person? As long as you are within the window to apply you can submit another one. I once had 4 rejected and had the fifth one accepted, because I was trying to get the address to exactly match what they had on file. Give it a shot, worst that can happen is it will be rejected again.
If you are doing it on your phone make sure that you are not filling in the form using autofill or whatever it is called to populate the form fields . Enter the details manually to be sure that they are correct. I have got in the habit of opening the PDF attached to the acknowledgment email after you submit and make sure that all the details are correct. If it’s not correct go back in and cancel the application then submit a new correct one.
Mine was rejected online because they had the wrong dates. I had re-entered from Laos by land at the Friendship bridge at Nackon Phanom and it was not on the system but was stamped in my passport. The lady giving out the numbers looked at my passport and saw my age so I was directed as a priority to first in line! Can’t complain.
