A question for Canadian retirees in Thailand. Which is better....to apply for the retirement visa through the Thai Embassy/Consulate in Canada.....or, do it while you are in Thailand. I have an adequate retirement pension.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether Canadian retirees should apply for a retirement visa through a Thai Embassy/Consulate in Canada or while in Thailand. It highlights that both options are viable, with the in-country process requiring more visits to immigration and the show of sufficient funds in a Thai bank account. Applying from Canada offers a 90-day visa initially, allowing for a more straightforward extension process that includes alternatives to the bank balance requirement.

Going through the process and some things to watch for as far as moving $$$ from Canada ...and a few other differences been applying in Canada and in Thailand
Both are possible indeed. When you make a non imm O retirement in Thailand you have to go to immigration a couple of times and already transfer 800k฿ in your Thai bank account as international transfer. Then after 60 days you can ask for a year extension based on retirement. With the non imm O retirement in y'r country, you get 90 days already and after 60 days you can ask the year extension with or 2 months before the 800k฿ in your bank account OR an income statement (affidavit). Much less hassle.
