I'd say IF you don't have TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land so far this year go to the Nong Khai land border and just stamp into thailand There are reports of people getting stamped right in without much fanfare

BUT IF you fly you need to meet the requirements for entering thailand by air. what ever they are..

NOPE it's no good at all. You can get in on a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp because you hold a french passport

Border crossing into Laos at Nong Khai is only open if you already have a valid visa for Laos.
