I will be going to malaysia via train and crossing at the Padang Basar land border. In my research I read that a recent change in policy at this border will require proof of funds if I want to get back into Thailand. Has anyone recently crossed through this border and can confirm this? Do I need to physically have cash or would an ATM receipt be enough to cover this? Not super excited at the thought of carrying 20000 baht while traveling around.
TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent reports indicate that travelers crossing from Thailand to Malaysia at the Padang Basar border are required to show proof of funds, specifically cash amounting to 20,000 baht. An ATM receipt is not accepted, and travelers have confirmed that cash must be presented to immigration officials. There are discussions around exceptions for holders of Non-B visas, but generally, the cash requirement seems to apply to all travelers. It's advised to ensure you have the required amount in cash while crossing.
