What are the current requirements for proof of funds when crossing from Thailand to Malaysia at the Padang Basar border?

I will be going to malaysia via train and crossing at the Padang Basar land border. In my research I read that a recent change in policy at this border will require proof of funds if I want to get back into Thailand. Has anyone recently crossed through this border and can confirm this? Do I need to physically have cash or would an ATM receipt be enough to cover this? Not super excited at the thought of carrying 20000 baht while traveling around.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent reports indicate that travelers crossing from Thailand to Malaysia at the Padang Basar border are required to show proof of funds, specifically cash amounting to 20,000 baht. An ATM receipt is not accepted, and travelers have confirmed that cash must be presented to immigration officials. There are discussions around exceptions for holders of Non-B visas, but generally, the cash requirement seems to apply to all travelers. It's advised to ensure you have the required amount in cash while crossing.

if I have a Non 'O' retirement extension of stay and I cross back into Thailand there, will I have to show cash?
Ivan ************
Vincent Vanmilingen yes and I had it stolen before (outside Thailand) having taken it out for the purpose of coming back later (which I didn't do for over a year as it happened). I don't think most people would feel it necessary to carry 40,000 in cash around everywhere with themselves since the invention of the automatic ATM machine.

yes so i never carry an excessive amount of cash

Most young people these days have these things called credit or debit cards, that they use to get cash wherever they travel. Amazing technology.

Vincent Vanmilingen i paid out plenty for a TE visa BUT I too could be asked to show the funds. On the other hand, I wouldn't think of travelling without that kind of money in my pocket anyway, visa or not.

@Robert ******
incredible and we would have already proven funds to gen the year extension!

Yes.

20,000 each person in cash? I would be travelling with my wife so we would need to show 40,000 ?
Tod *********
There were reports of people on multi-entry Non-Immigrant visas when they were comin' in on a new 90 day stamp being asked for proof.

I would say be prepared to show the cash if you're asked.
Robert *******
If they ask you have to show the cash, if you do not have it, hopefully there are ATM's around otherwise it will be a travel to the nearest ATM in Malaysia.

FFS. It's $600 usd. Have it. Show it. Nobody is robbing you.

Yes the border is very strict now and they are asking everyone for the cash proof of funds. We have teachers crossing all the time for their Non Bs and all have been checked including European passport holders, South Africans and quite a few others. At the moment it seems the American passports dont get asked but this is not a guarantee

Joseph Michael Pedro III goodluck.

@Ron *****************
you are looking for sense?
Ron ******************
Joseph Michael Pedro III ok that makes sense. Not that I use any border for runs. On a Non B for many years and now Non O based on retirement. Jump through the hoops once a year 555.
Ron ******************
Joseph Michael Pedro III it doesnt make sense. If you have a Non B and WP why do you need B 20k. If you however have a Non B and no WP I can understand the rule. Thai immigration at their best.
Ron ******************
@Lisa **************
why must Non B's show cash as they are employed or should be employed. I was under the impression the cash requirement was for TV and ED visas.
Lisa ***************
Always cash

@Lisa **************
Non B's must show cash or just check in other ways?
Rachel *************
They definitely will ask to see the cash....I was asked 2 weeks ago as we're the other 100+ people in the queue.
Jason ***********
Cash only.

Using the southern border crossings that require proof of funds means you show CASH. There is no other option IF they ask (and in the south there is a high chance they will ask
Ron *******
No they won't accept an ATM slip. Seriously, get a grip of yourself. 20,000 baht is barely enough for a good night out.
