If I have 3 bank statements for the LA consulate DTV application but the money has really only been in the account for 2.5 months before applying is there any issue?
Answer summary
Applying for a DTV visa at the LA consulate with only 2.5 months of bank statements may lead to complications. The LA consulate is known for strict requirements, typically asking for 3 months of bank statements showing a maintained balance of at least 500,000 THB. If the money hasn't been in the account for a full three months, it might result in a request for additional documentation or a risk of rejection. It's advised to wait until the funds have been in the account for the full duration or submit additional proof of the source of funds along with the application.

Then you just wait to apply until the money has been in the correct type of bankaccount for the period of time that it has to have been in the account.
Not doing so, can lead to rejection and loss of the 10.000 baht visafee.
by the time I get three statements it wouldnt be in the account for three months. The transfer shows coming from my account in my name to the savings account
LA is one of the stricter consulates for seasoning.
Official requirement says "3 months statements with ending balance 500k THB" - but LA in practice has been checking that the balance was *maintained for the full 3 months*, not just present on the last statement.
With 2.5 months you will likely get this reply:
> "Other requested documents: bank documents showing FINAL BALANCE equal to at least 500k THB for past 3 months..."
That is LA's standard additional-doc request when they see a large deposit in month 2-3. It means another review cycle, 1-2 weeks delay, and if you cannot show 3 full months you risk refusal and losing $400 fee.
*What to do:*
- *Wait 2 more weeks* if you can - that's the cleanest fix. Submit when you have 3 full statements all ending above ∼$15k USD. LA accepts high-yield savings, Marcus etc. is fine.
- If you cannot wait: Submit 3 statements anyway + include a 1-page cover letter explaining source of funds + proof of source (paystub showing transfer from another of your own accounts, sale of stock, etc.). LA has approved people with 2.5 months when source was clearly their own savings moving, not borrowed money. But if it's a sudden $14k deposit from unknown source, high risk.
- Don't hide transactions - LA wants all pages, not just summary page. They will spot the deposit date anyway.
LA approval is fast when documents are clean - same day in many cases. But when they ask for additional docs for unseasoned funds, partner report was: first application rejected, had to pay again $400 and resubmit with letter + business account proof.
If you want to send me how the balance looks - e.g. Month 1: $2k, Month 2: $8k, Month 3: $15k - I can tell you if it's worth risking now or waiting.
You could consider reading a book or two before your trip. I’d recommend Unlock Thailand by Isla Rey on Amazon, it includes all the info and insights you need. You should check it out. A very good companion 👌.
Giasai😉 NO one wants to change the rules, each embassy is doing different things. A lot of poeple want to know if the speicifc embassy they are applying to does it a certain way. No one is trying to break the law
As the Thai Consulate in LA likes to say, “It's assessed on a case-by-case basis.”
Personally, if you're not in a rush, I'd wait until the funds have been in your account for a full 3 months, just to be on the safe side. While LA doesn't explicitly require this, many Thai embassies request 3–6 months of bank statements.
