Going to Thailand April 6, 2026. Is a ticket out of Thailand necessary to get into Thailand. Plan to stay 90 days but if our villa in Turkey, which is currently for sale, sells during this time we will have to return to Turkey. Otherwise I would go ahead and purchase a ticket from Bangkok to Nepal. Depending on what everyone says, O might just go ahead and buy a ticket to Nepal.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When planning a trip to Thailand and intending to stay for 90 days, it is necessary to have an onward travel ticket as a part of the entry requirements. This requirement is sometimes enforced by airlines, who may not allow boarding without proof of onward travel. Although Thai immigration officials seldom check for return tickets, they recommend having an outbound ticket booked to comply with regulations, especially when entering on a visa-exempt basis.

To be safe you can buy a train ticket out of Thailand from Nong Khai to Vientiane for 70 baht!

I went through Immigration and it was a breeze. They looked at and stamped my passport, fingerprints, pics. Went through in like 3 minutes.

Yes. An entry requirement; it is the airline that will check at check-in. Same applies to most countries.

Ive never been asked about it. I always go for 30 days and they seem to like that I follow the immigration rules to the letter.

Depends on your record , when is your last time and how frequent u travel and also does your airline allow you to exit your country if no return ticket

Depends on the airline some are strict, no visa without a return might not let you on , immigration rarely bother. Just buy a cheap bus ticket to laos, all you need to prove is your leaving the country before 60 days

Jason Musson The requirement is outbound ticket, not return.

So this was fine and appropriate

If you are coming visa exempt you need a ticket out of Thailand within the time you will get stamped in for which is 60 days (not necessarily a return), accommodation booked and 20k baht or equivalent in cash each, 40k if travelling as a family.

Technically, you are supposed to have onward travel out of Thailand within the granted period of stay, on entry. In practice they rarely check but airlines often do.
