There's an official requirement at Immigration that never made it to any of my entries in the Kingdom; I mean proof of funds. I haven't been there in a while, though, and when I enter tomorrow on a visa exemption I'll say I'm coming for 60 days. Is this ever asked at Immigration on a visa exemption? No, right? Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand on a visa exemption, proving sufficient funds can be a requirement, although it is rarely enforced. Recent discussions suggest that with the visa exemption extended to 60 days, this proof may be asked for more frequently. Travelers who have frequently entered Thailand have reported mixed experiences, with some never being asked to provide proof of funds.

I’ve been in and out of Bangkok and Chiang Mai ten times in the last year, via air, in most cases from Vietnam. I have never been asked to validate proof of funds.

BTW the Embassy website is incorrect, it is 20k for Visa Exempt (40k per family). With Visa Exempt now being 60 days don't be surprised if this requirement is enforced more rigoursly than in the past.

honestly, whether you've been asked in your few times entering is statistically insignificant compared to the several million tourists who enter Thailand each year. You must not pay the close attention to the groups that others do, where there have been plenty of reports over the years of people asked to show the funds in cash, and denied entry when they don't have it. However, as I said, the odds of it happening are smaller than those of you being hand searched for drugs. But that doesn't mean people don't get searched for illicit materials every day, just like several out of tens of thousands of people entering Thailand daily get asked to show the funds.

that's good to know. I should bring cash to exchange at SuperRich anyway.

I've been asked twice, once at BKK and once at Poipet, there you go

that certainly is my experience (never being asked) and never hearing about it in forums either.

When you think about it, it would be a bit weird to randomly pick someone in rows of people being stamped entry (that probably don't have much cash, if any) if they have 20,000 THB or equivalent and then refuse entry when they don't, maybe even more so from Western European country nationals.

a bank statement doesn't meet the requirement. You must show it in actual cash, not via credit cards, banking apps, etc. However the odds of being asked for the average person without a problematic entry or stay history is about as much as being randomly pulled aside and searched for illegal drugs.

better safe than sorry, I guess. It's not like I'm concerned because I don't have the money, but I'm not prepared with a bank statement and could eventually get one.

It's a requirement to enter Thailand. It's rarely asked for but if you've spent a lot of time in Thailand the odds of being asked go up.

or cash. It doesn't really matter what type of cheque as I wouldn't be using any of that (never did in my life).

That would be Travellers Cheque not bank cheques

oh, right, now that I read that again, it does say cheque or cash.

The Thailand requirement, if you are asked, is CASH ONLY. They will not accept bank statement, credit or debit card, banking app, etc.

I would think the requirement is to show a bank statement - that's how I applied showing proof of funds in Malaysia to re-enter Thailand with a tourist visa a couple of years ago anyway. For visas, some consulates ask for it. I've just never been asked on a visa exemption.

Thailand can of course require whatever they want, but in today's world of electronic payments and credit cards, how many people normally carry THB 20,000 or the equivalent in $ / £ /€ in cash ?

not really that often, I've been to Thailand three time (well, three entries last time too), but that was two years ago. I would have thought the fact that I've been to the country successfully (financially) would sooner reduce the odds of asking for proof of funds, but who knows.
