Hi,

I booked a RT-PCR test and got tested today.

On the certificate it says "Nucleic acid amplification with probe detection".

Is this a valid RT-PCR test to enter Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the validity of a COVID-19 test certified as "Nucleic Acid Amplification with Probe Detection" for entry into Thailand. Several comments clarify that this type of test falls under the category of nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs), which are deemed valid for detecting SARS-CoV-2. However, there are mixed opinions on whether airlines accept tests labeled differently, such as simply stating "PCR." Community members share personal experiences regarding test acceptance and the ongoing confusion regarding testing requirements.

Mine said real time PCR and was accepted

Just curious. When does your flight leave? Do you have a backup plan to get the required RT PCR test on time before your departure?

My flight leaves tomorrow. I have a flexi ticket so i can postpone at a cost and get a test at the airport if needed.

@Johan *******
can you get to the airport tomorrow extra early and get a rapid PCR test?

keep us updated. I like the idea of having the airport testing as an emergency backup!

Thank you for the reply's! I found two other sites i could download a certificate. One say's PCR test and the other one RT-PCR test. Typical for our government, make it as confusing as possible πŸ˜’. I'm going to try the one that say's RT-PCR test and also have a QR code on my phone.

I guess the airline will not check you in anyway

Must say RT-PCR

Andy, THEY ARE WRONG FOR DOING SO. WHAT PART OF ITS EXACTLY THE SAME TEST DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?
Andy *******
@Scott ******
Totally agree but fact unfortunately

BS Andy. Stop scaring people. All it has to say is PCR. If airlines are employing people that don’t know the law, then that’s their problem.

But people still continue to get denied boarding - and in fact issue on arrival with only PCR on the cert.
Andy *******
@Scott ******
but they ARE denying people from boarding. Fact

Andy, It’s Thai law which is more important than the airline. Airlines now know this. As long as it says PCR people will be fine as was proved last week when I entered 😎
Andy *******
@Scott ******
Wrong, not every employee at every airlines know this but thank you

Not true Andy

What you're showing me has nothing to do with airlines regulations

Amplifying those nucleic acids enables NAATs to detect very small amounts of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in a specimen, making these tests highly sensitive for diagnosing COVID-19. In other words, NAATs can reliably detect small amounts of SARS-CoV-2 and are unlikely to return a false-negative result of SARS-CoV-2.

@Yash *****
try explaining that to airline staff or Thai immigration officers. Good luck

A Nucleic Acid Amplification Test, or NAAT, is a type of viral diagnostic test for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. NAATs detect genetic material (nucleic acids). NAATs for SARS-CoV-2 specifically identify the RNA (ribonucleic acid) sequences that comprise the genetic material of the virus.
