I thought I was applying for a 90 day evisa when I chose vacation as a reason for travel. What I got was 60 days when I arrived. How long before my 60 days are up can I apply for 30 day extension? USA citizen not on visa upon arrival but issued evisa online. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The timeframe for applying for a 30-day extension on a 60-day eVisa in Thailand depends on the immigration office you are visiting. Generally, you can apply for an extension 30 days before your visa is set to expire. However, some offices, particularly in Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai, allow applications up to 45 days prior to expiry. Other locations, like Jomtien and Koh Samui, may only permit applications within the last week before expiration. It's advisable to check the specific policy of the immigration office you plan to visit.
45 days prior at some offices eg CW, CM, Phuket and for most up to 30 days prior.
Here's the catch. Not unheard of for immigration to send you away and come back couple of weeks prior to expiry.
So as usual can depend on the immigration office

Depends where you are. Some immigrations as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Hua Hin allows tourist extension 45 days before your stay expires. Others as Jomtien and samui the last week. The rest is 30 days.

That completely depends on where you will be applying. Most immigration offices allow you to apply when you have 30 days or less left. Some allow you to apply when you have 45 days or less left (Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, a few more), and a few only allow you to apply when you have 7 days or less left (Jomtien, Koh Samui, Koh Phangnan).
