The cost for a Laos visa on arrival seems to vary, with comments indicating prices of 1700 baht and around $40 USD as common estimates. It is advised to use pristine US dollar banknotes instead of Thai baht, as individual officers may not accept other currencies, and payment in USD is typically cheaper. Additionally, travelers should be prepared for a passport photo requirement.

Cheaper to bring perfect USD bills than using Thai baht. Depending on your passport $40

USD $40 US Dollars is the price for Lao Visa on Arrival (Lao VoA) and the cash currency should be pristine (clean, "new") banknotes, because the Thai Baht equivalent price will not be determined by current exchange rates, and, honestly, up to each individual officer whether they will take Thai Baht or other currency instead of pristine US Dollars, with an exception for China and Vietnam where their stated Lao VoA price is USD $20
