TLDR : Answer Summary
To renew your visa in Thailand using the 800,000 THB method, the funds must be in your bank account for at least two months prior to applying for the extension. After obtaining the extension, the amount should remain above 800,000 THB for three months, and thereafter it should not drop below 400,000 THB for the rest of the year. It's essential to use the correct terminology regarding visas and extensions to receive accurate information.

This post also highlights the reason why it's SO important to use the correct terminology OR give us the back story to what it is you're asking about.

You CANNOT renew a visa (that you get from a thai consulate in another country) and you CANNOT renew a yearly extension (that you get from the immigration office in your area) AND a yearly extension is NOT a visa :O

Had the O/P said they were applying for a new yearly extension INSIDE the country and then asked about the proof of funds requirements the post could have been answered far faster than it was.

Okay, the O/P got their answer, and despite what people were told or handed at an immgiration office the official police order states IF you are using the 800K baht banked money method you need to have the money in your account 2 months prior to you applying for your extension, the balance needs to stay above 800K baht for 3 months AFTER your extension is granted and then it can't drop below 400K baht the rest of the year.

Depending on the immigration office they might give you a paper that says to go back in 3 months and show your bank balance. BUT if you do no get a paper stating you need to do so it means they're not going to look at your bank balance until next year when you get a new extension.

Consulate.. I think you mean ?

And if your referring to ‘extending’, a retirement IO non imm , I think you can only do that in Thailand . You only get one visa , after that you apply for extensions .. and if your applying for your first visa , you don’t need 800k in a THAI bank , that’s only when you extend it . And that’s 2 months prior .

hi I have a non_imm extending end of Dec this is the first time, just need to know how long the money needs to be in the bank.

however, it is not the visa you extend. What you extend is the "admitted to" stamp in your passport. Your stay is extended.

Two months prior to renewal, three months following renewal and balance cannot drop below 400,000bt at any time in that year.

The IO's are a kind of law to themselves. In Samui, they didn't want to do the combination method for mine in August, told me if I put the money in, time didn't matter even though I was three weeks away from renewal.

my IO demands 3 months prior and have done so for nearly 10 years, even prior to opening in my province.

Go to the embassy and ask their requirements ( even here it's up to each IO).. How much are you paying your consultant ?
