TLDR : Answer Summary
For a one-year extension of your Non-O visa based on retirement, you need to have your funds in the bank for at least 2 months prior to application. It's also necessary that the funds remain in the account for 3 months after the application and do not drop below 400,000 THB for the rest of the year. Moreover, you must bring an updated bank book on the day of application along with a standard bank letter.

They will want the bank statement showing the funds have been in there for 2 months plus they'll also want your bank book updated on the morning you apply for the extension.

Needs to be in place 2 months prior. Has to stay for 3 months after and can’t go below 400k for the rest of the year.

thanks for that info. I thought it had to remain at 800k at all times. Do you know if it has to be back at the 800k mark when the year is up and you want to extend for another year?

some Immigrations will tell you that the 800,000 THB need to remain in the account for the whole year. For example Immigration in Koh Samui will tell you so. However there is no base for that. The up to date police order clearly states otherwise

thanks for that information. Since I have the funds I think the best thing to do would be to just leave the 800k there so I don’t make any mistakes. When my second pension starts in less than 3 years I can switch to the monthly amounts.

it's easiest to just leave it at 800,000 so you don't mistakenly screw up the timing and be rejected for your next extension

I have just recently arrived on a Non-O visa and am getting ready to try and open an account, but I have heard it can be difficult. Can I ask what bank you used? Thanks.

Based on several feedbacks and also personal experience it’s not just straightforward to open a bank account on a initial Non O visa anymore. You might have to try several branches as they require a minimum one year "visa".

Check with your office as mine (Nakhon Phanom) required the money in my account 3 months prior to application. I was short by 3 days and was turned down. Luckily I had enough time to go and apply again the following week. Always apply as soon as you can in case there is an issue that needs correction.

that's a rogue Immigration. The police order clearly states a "two months seasoning" on the day of application. . . . . . and this police order from 2019 is still valid and legal

it has always been necessary to visit several branches before successfully getting a bank account but with a 90 day non O visa it is more likely you will get one eventually. Thise on tourist visas or visa exempt are no longer able to get an account.

what is the reason you can't open bank acct with nonO visa? Is there anything missing? Lease agreement, residency cert, immigration letter...cos I have open a acct with SCB with just nonO and thai driving licence recently

It’s should be sufficient with three months, you’ll need to update your bank book same day as you apply and bring a so called "standard bank letter" as well.
