TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai retirement visa (NON-O) requires a bank deposit of 800,000 THB to be held for 2 months before applying for an extension and must remain there for 3 months after. At no point should the balance drop below 400,000 THB during the year. Some local immigration offices may prefer to see the funds maintained for 3 months prior to the application for subsequent extensions. It's advisable to keep a separate account for the visa funds and an additional account for monthly budgeting.

Best budget yourselves based on spending. If tourist oriented & like play the nightlife, then probably 100,000-150k a month so dipping into the Visa fund is likely. But if just living, your budget would be around 50k & can leave your Visa fund as is.
Best have two accounts, Visa fund which you never touch & a budget account.
thanks for the replies...i m part of confused bec read in the thai embassy news....2 month prior first time u apply but the second time u renew your visa it needs to be 3 month prior in the account...what means it must be there for 6 month....anyway....not a big difference....
You may have read different things Asa retirement extension is 2 months prior but a guardian extension (bar the first one) is 3 months. Both are obtain off the initial Non O visa so could be confusing.
is it true that you pay a visa agent named Scammy Joe that takes your passport and never return it and you eventually end up without a passport and on overstay. Seen that happen right in this group. And ofc not worry about the 800k lol
wow my colleague Pete Webb got charged 12k for non o in Thailand 90 days but it was for marriage visa and then 20k for yearly extension they did everything though including the funds. So it seems rates are varied - this was in Chang btw
some agents will provide the 800,000 bht but for a fee but this could come back at you and bite you on the atse because technically speaking this is to show you have enough funds to support yourself in Thailand
Officially the 800k must be in the account for 2 calendar months before applying for the extension and must remain there for 3 months after, never dropping below 400k at any point in the year. But some offices want to see the money in the bank for 3 calendar months before applying for 2nd and subsequent extensions. Check your local office.
