# My experience with the DTV Visa – Remote Job in Germany
Hi everyone :),
I wanted to share my experience applying for the DTV Visa through the Thai Consulate in Frankfurt, because this group helped me a lot while preparing my own application.
This might be especially useful for anyone applying for the DTV with a remote job for a German employer.
My timeline
29 July 2026:
I submitted my complete application online to the Thai Consulate in Frankfurt.
There were also two Thai public holidays during the week after I submitted my application, which naturally delayed the process by around two days.
5 August 2026:
I received an email from the consulate asking me to provide two additional documents:
* a CV/resume
* bank statements from the last 3 months, certified by the bank
The certified bank statements were actually very easy to arrange. I simply downloaded and printed my regular bank statements from my online banking, went to my bank, and they stamped and signed them.
That was completely sufficient for the consulate.
6 August 2026 at around 3 PM:
I uploaded the requested additional documents.
About 3 hours later, I received the confirmation that my DTV had been approved. ✅
My flight back to Bangkok is on 20 August. I was not really worried about the processing time because I already knew that the Thai Consulate in Frankfurt usually works quite quickly, as long as all documents are submitted properly, completely and in a well-organized way.
That was also exactly my experience. Considering that there were also two Thai public holidays during the processing period, I think the whole process was very fast.
What did I submit?
1. Passport photo
A proper and recent passport-style photo.
2. Proof of current location
To prove that I was physically staying in Germany during the application process, I submitted:
* a self-written declaration confirming that I would remain physically in Germany until my visa application had been processed
* my flight ticket from Frankfurt to Bangkok
* my German ID card, front and back
3. Financial proof
For the financial requirement, I submitted bank statements from the previous 6 months.
These clearly showed:
* that I receive my salary regularly
* that I meet the required 500,000 THB financial threshold
I preferred to provide a little more documentation from the beginning so that my financial situation was easy for the consulate to understand.
Later, as mentioned above, they additionally requested bank-certified statements from the previous 3 months.
4. Proof of remote employment
For my employment situation, I submitted:
* my German employment contract
* a letter from my employer confirming that I am allowed to work 100% remotely
* my salary/payslips from the previous 6 months
* a self-written cover letter
In my cover letter, I explained:
* why I wanted to apply for the DTV
* that I understand and respect the rules and conditions of the visa
* that my employer is based in Germany
* that I will continue working for my German employer
* and that I do not intend to work for a Thai employer or take up local employment in Thailand
All of my documents were in German
This might also be useful information for some people:
All of my documents were in German.
My employment contract, employer confirmation, salary documents and other supporting documents were not translated into English or Thai.
For the Thai Consulate in Frankfurt, that was completely fine in my case.
My personal impression
One thing I also learned from this group, and which seemed to be true in my case, is that the process may be easier if you apply for the visa in the country you are from or where you are officially registered.
In my case:
German passport → registered residence in Germany → application in Germany.
In my opinion, this makes it easier for the consulate to verify documents such as your employment contract, employer, salary payments, bank account and residence.
Of course, this is only my personal experience and I cannot say that it will be the same for everyone.
But in my case, the whole process was very straightforward.
My advice: save your money on visa agencies
This is not the first visa I have applied for by myself, and personally I would not pay an agency to handle the DTV application.
Some agencies charge what I consider to be very high fees for something that is actually quite manageable to do yourself.
The most important things are:
* read the requirements carefully
* prepare all documents properly
* name your files clearly
* keep everything organized and easy to understand
* provide clear supporting evidence
* and respond quickly if the consulate asks for additional documents
The whole process is really not that complicated.
And especially this group has been a huge help, because so many people share their experiences and answer questions.
So a big thank you to everyone here who regularly shares information, comments and helps others with their applications. 🙏
For me, it took from 29 July to 6 August to receive the approval — just over one week, including an additional document request and two Thai public holidays during the processing period.
Hopefully my experience helps someone else who is planning to apply for the DTV with a remote job in Germany.
