What documentation do I need to provide for a DTV visa if I have a Wyoming LLC?

DTV refused over a "legalised" company registration document — anyone with a US LLC been through this?

Belgian, applied for the DTV (workcation) in Brussels end of July. I run a Wyoming LLC serving European clients. Funds, proof of location, portfolio and 5-year plan all passed. The only issue was proving the company is mine.

Their exact request (screenshot attached): "Request for legalised version of applicant's business registration certificate by the concerned authorities of the USA"

I sent the IRS CP-575 (EIN letter naming me as sole member), a Certificate of Good Standing from the Wyoming Secretary of State with online verification, and the Articles of Organization. Refused three days later: "Failure to provide legalised documents as per request."

Does anyone know what they actually wanted? Full consular chain (State SoS → US Dept of State → Thai mission in the US), or something simpler? And has anyone with a US LLC been approved — what did you send?

Also wondering whether Brussels is unusually strict here, and whether it's worth waiting for 28 Feb 2027 when the Apostille Convention kicks in for Thailand.

Thanks!

Answer summary
The user sought guidance on the documentation required for securing a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Thailand, specifically regarding the acceptance of a Wyoming LLC registration document. After submitting various documents including an IRS CP-575, Certificate of Good Standing, and Articles of Organization, the user's application was denied due to a lack of 'legalized' documentation. Discussions revealed the need for a complete legalization process typically involving certification from the Wyoming Secretary of State, followed by authentication from the U.S. Department of State, and then legalization by the Thai Embassy. Other users shared their experiences and strategies, mentioning alternatives such as presenting oneself as an employee rather than an owner to facilitate visa approval.

I live in Wyoming and have owned Wyoming LLCs. It would be very simple for you to provide your Articles of Incorporation from the Wyoming Secretary of State. Surely the Articles of Incorporation will show you as the owner of the LLC. I suspect that you could also download your Annual Report which your LLC must file every year.

They want you to do an apostille from your embassy. This is the equivalent of a notarized document but from the embassy.

It’d be nice if they’d state these things but Thai govt prefers games over clearly stated procedures.

Go apply in Vietnam. Like everything in Thailand, documents required are at the discretion of the officer... Fly to Vietnam, 3-7 days you'll be approved.

Absolutely insane levels of bureaucracy here. I cannot fathom the need for this just for a upgraded tourist visa.

Yes - The owning of a company differs from the owner who as an individual works for another company to meet income criteria. This is what they are essentially requiring being a 'workation' for an individual. An agent navigates this part of the process and inevitably irons out any bulk that may not be necessary to dig into.

This is what I would do. Come to Thailand on a tourist Visa and find where you want to live. Then find a Thai Language School since it is MUCH easier to know the language, even a little will help. Then sign up for classes (they aren’t expensive) and they can help you with the DTV Visa. You might have to go to Vietnam for a couple weeks but it’s a nice vacation.

This is the Thai Language School I go to in beautiful Krabi.

They do ED and DTV.

Did you get your DTV completely rejected and you lost the fee? or they still allow you to amend the application and add new documents like the "employee of your LLC letter"? I've seen people writing a letter that allows you as employee of your own company to work from Thailand.

Getting a document legalized for a Wyoming / Delaware company sounds more work than starting a company in a country like Germany (and I presume Belgium isn't that easier). It works for tax and financial purposes, but for DTV, I think they expect a bit more "grounded" set of documents.

Hi from Chiang Mai, I am amazon reseller. I submitted the article of organization during my application also my İstanbul residency proof and Mercury bank statement and get dtv. In my opinion The consulate checks whether the bank accounts are linked to the LLC.

Someone wrote a while back that rather than presenting themselves as the owner of the company, they presented themselves as employees..

Im not sure how they actually did it, if the company was set up that way already, or if they just gave it a shot.. But, they wrote a letter of recommendation och certificate of income and what not as the company to the applicant for DTV, signed it as themselves "John Smith CEO" and got it approved..

From what Im seeing in the groups, and online, Im moving further and further from wanting to apply for the DTV, especially with immigration recalling visas during the period it has been approved for.

Yes, there are reasons, but I don't want to have to think about technicalities and faffing about with finding the exact right formulation to get approved and keep my visa..

You know what "legalized" means? You write"I sent the IRS CP-575 (EIN letter naming me as sole member), a Certificate of Good Standing from the Wyoming Secretary of State with online verification, and the Articles of Organization.."

" But you dont make notarized and from ministry of foreign affairs legalized document out of it.

To legalize a Wyoming business registration (such as Articles of Organization) for a Thai visa, you must obtain certified copies from the Wyoming Secretary of State, get state-level authentication, and then submit the documents to the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate with jurisdiction over your area.Step-by-Step Legalization ProcessGet Certified Copies: Order certified copies of your business registration or a Certificate of Good Standing directly through the Wyoming Secretary of State portal.State Authentication: Send the certified corporate documents to the Wyoming Secretary of State’s office to receive a state authentication or Apostille-level verification for international use.U.S. Department of State (if required): Some Thai consular jurisdictions require federal authentication by the U.S. Department of State after state certification. Check the specific instructions of your assigned Thai embassy/consulate.Thai Embassy Legalization: Submit the fully authenticated paperwork to the Royal Thai Embassy or Royal Thai Consulate-General with a completed legalization application form and fee (typically $15 per official seal).

OP
Hi
@Robin ******
, thanks for taking the time to reply on my post, that was genuinely useful. I saw you also have an LLC and are based in Europe, so you've probably been through exactly this.

Three things if you don't mind:

1. Notarization. Someone told me a notarized copy would be enough on its own, and I found a remote online notary service (Florida notary, works internationally, same-day, around $25). You wrote "notarized and from ministry of foreign affairs legalized", which suggests notarization is only one step and not the whole thing. Can you confirm either way? I don't want to pay for something that gets rejected again. And can a Florida notary even certify a Wyoming state document, or does it have to go through the Wyoming Secretary of State regardless?

2. Tax residency. My whole reason for the DTV is to become a Thai tax resident. Someone told me you can't do that on a DTV because it's classified as a tourist visa. My understanding is that it's purely the 180-day physical presence test and the visa type is irrelevant, but you'd know better in practice. Have you or anyone you know actually done it - got the TIN and filed?

3. Timing. This is my real problem. I've already spent 74 days in Thailand this year, so I need 106 more, which means entering by around 16 September to hit 180 days for 2026. If the full legalization chain takes 2-3 months, that's clearly impossible. Is there any faster route you know of, or should I just accept 2026 is gone and plan properly for 2027?

Thanks a lot for your time

this is the process they wanted. Authenticated and notarized.

this is the answer and based on my experience (not DTV related) the Thai embassy wants the document to be legalized/authenticated by the U.S. Department of State. This takes several months from the State Department.

Hi Robin thanks for your reply, it's super helpful. I'm on the same journey, however I have a small question - my Articles of Organization is with an agent and doesn't have my name on it, do you have the same set up, if so, was it a problem? Thanks a lot!
Mia C. #AF02Email was verified
Hey Luna, same here, my Articles are held by an agent and don’t list my name directly, but I patched the gap by adding notarized proof linking me to the LLC, like the IRS letter and a company resolution. It helped to make everything clear for the embassy.
Luna #7A69Email was verified
Heyy thanks so much for your reply. I do have the IRS letter, did you just have it notarized rather than legalization by the government? Also, did you have the notarization done in your country, then ship the documents over to the US? Thank you, so many questions here!
Mia C. #AF02Email was verified
Hey Luna, I just had the IRS letter notarized locally here, then sent all the notarized docs to the US for embassy legalization, doing the full chain made the embassy happy. It’s a bit of a process but helped prove ownership clearly.
Luna #7A69Email was verified
Sorry, just to clarify — when you say you had the IRS letter notarized locally, do you mean the Belgian notary simply made/certified a photocopy as a true copy of the original IRS letter? Or did they notarize it in some other way? Just trying to understand exactly what type of notarization you had done before sending it to the US for legalization. Thanks again for your help - it made me feel this is finally possible....
Mia C. #AF02Email was verified
Hey Luna, the Belgian notary certified the IRS letter as a true copy of the original, basically confirming the photocopy’s authenticity. Then I sent that notarized copy onward for US embassy legalization to complete the chain. It’s a bit tedious but worth it!
