Anyone in the UK recently applied for a Non-O visa? How many days did it take to get approved?
Answer summary
Many users shared their experiences regarding the Non-O visa application from the UK, noting that approval times can vary. Some reported receiving their visa within 1-3 days, while others suggested that it might take longer if applied too close to travel dates. Individuals emphasized the importance of having proof of onward travel due to airline policies, and that applying for a tourist visa might be a better option to avoid complications. Overall, contacting the airline for their specific policies and considering the processing time for a tourist visa were commonly advised.

Book a flight to Laos for with in the first 30 days ... then you can either get a.30 day extension in Thailand ( cancel flight) or go to Laos for a night and fly back in to Thailand for 30 days . Laos is even cheaper than Thailand for accomodation and food👍

You either need to change your flight plans or get a visa.

For a little bit more $$ people can book reservations that are free to change. This was passed by their parliament some months ago,.so no real excuses for not expecting it to drop at some point in time

Thank you for everyones help and answers. This is what an thai agent told me today... 'Whether you’re allowed to board the plane or not is up to the airline, not Thai Immigration.

Thai Immigration will decide whether to allow you to enter Thailand after you arrive. For Immigration purposes, a flight ticket showing departure within 60 days is fine.'

More likely your airline will refuse you boarding. Buy some cheap onward travel within 30 days and pray your extension of stay application is granted 👍

Or apply for a single entry tourist visa, time is not on your side for this option but could be possible
Alan **********
Alan **********
"we bought our flight ticket to return after 60 days"

This is not clear. Are you planning to stay exactly 60 days ? Or more than 60 days ? It makes a difference.

May I assume tha airport you're worried about is the airline that will be taking you TO Thailand ? In which case it's the airline you have to talk to.
Angeline ******************
Angeline ******************
Alan Rothwell yes i will contact my airline tomorrow. Just staying 59 days
Alan **********
Alan **********
Angeline Lambert-van Zyl OK, so if the stay is 59 days, then visa-exempt plus a 30-day extension can work.

Better would be the Tourist Visa for 60 days as the price would be about the same, you'd avoid the trip to Immigration for the extension of the v-e, and you wouldn't have to worry about the airline letting you board.

Not sure how long that would take though as you're only 2 weeks away.

People are really this ignorant?

30 days is "" visa free" for many countries meaning you don't need a visa to enter Thailand...

you can always apply and pay for long term visa and stay in Thailand longer but u need to file and pay a small fee as in most countries of the world...

Aladdin_Sane⚡️ thank you but I am still confused …what is the name of the visa I have to get ?

Is the single entry visa the tourist visa ?

Aladdin*******

Astrid Bunskoek if you have a single entry visa ( tourist visa ) you will be allowed entry for 60 days total, if you require more than 60 days you can apply for a 30 day extension at a Thai immigration office approx 10 to 14 days before your 60 day visa expires.

This is how it was explained to me. You have to prove to the airline you are going to leave within 30 dats or they will not let you board. The reason is they are liable for your return flight if you stay too long. Get an onward bound ticket. You get it 24 hours before you fly (I think 24 hours double check). It is a really cheap ticket that doesn't really exist (I have no idea why it is accepted but it is). You buy a date 30 days from date of landing to show the airline you are going to leave within the accepted visa allowance. Then once in Thailand you get an extension on your visa at the immigration office to extend your time there. It worked for us.
Alan **********
Alan **********
Lindsay Jane Louise Roberts There is anecdotal evidence, in addition to the Thais tightening up all sorts of things, that they are wise to the "dummy" tickets and, if you're caught with one using it as proof, you can be denied entry.

That said, I suppose a REAL, REFUNDABLE, RT ticket out and back should work.

Secondly, as has been menitoned, the airlines are quite familiar with other countries and their policies and very aware that a 30-day extention in Thailand is virtually routine UNLESS the tourist has become undesirable.

Not that it is proof of anything ,but last November I flew for 85 days with no visa. I was questioned at the airline's desk before leaving, explained about the extension, and allowed to board.

If you decide to go with 30 days visa exempt, and apply at immigration for 30 days extension, best to apply 10 to 15 days before your initial 30 days are up. You don't lose any days by going early, the 30 days extension is added to the end date of your visa exempt stay.

Simplest thing to do just to cover yourself is to book a flight with say air asia to somewhere like Vietnam.

I did that because airlines sometimes wont board you if you are over the visa exempt without an onward flight.

I booked air asia for £26 on day 58 of 60 day visa exempt.

Then just visit your local im office where you are staying and get the extra 30 for 1900bht.

Nobody can give you a positive answer, the final answer rests with the immigration official you are dealing with upon arrival, their decision is final and absolute!! however you can influence their “discretion” by fulfilling all the associated requirements, namely, adequate funds, itinerary, hotel bookings and all the other nuances to show you’re a genuine tourist, plus show respect stay patient and explain the circumstances!! You’ll be fine!!

The airline are the ones to ask. They are aware that you can obtain an extension but as all extensions are discretionary (very rarely refused though) they may not allow you to board - it depends on their policy. If that fails you have 2 options - 1. buy a cheap refundable ticket out of Thailand (anywhere) that departs before your 30 day entry expires. Get an extension and cancel the flight. 2. Get a tourist visa - I would have thought 14 days is pushing it a bit but you could talk to the embassy first and explain. Even though its an e-visa, its still dealt with locally.

Phil Wilson Onward tickets are real bookings that last from 72 hours to 7 days before they are automatically cancelled, so book the day you travel to ensure it is still a live ticket. I've never heard of anybody being denied boarding with a live ticket.

Lola *******
Lola *******
Paul Hogan , that is a good question…I guess if you have round trip ticket the airline would see that… if they weren’t going to let you fly, you’d think they’d ask more questions at booking time.

Technically another flight leaving out of the country in the appropriate time should suffice regardless bc you are meeting the requirements. I have a RT booked, 7 months apart. I have a different flight out of Thailand 27 days after entering. Many people travel other countries while in the area, but maybe RT was cheaper than 2 one ways from different countries. Idk 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve been a few times over the last decades and it was never a problem. I know a lot is changing, but it always changes with time

Lola Brant - Yes I’ve been travelling to Thailand a lot over the last 6 years but prior to 2024 I was going for a month at a time and when they raised it to 60 days exemption in 2024 I started going for two months at a time which I would like to continue so I think it’ll have to be a 60 day tourist visa from now on !!!

Sadly a lot has changed in the last 2 yrs

All Cambodia land borders are closed !

It depends on your history of travel to Thailand over the last 12-18 months

The days of back to back visa exempts - leaving the country and coming back in are done

You can certainly get 60 + days in Thailand , as a tourist , but only if you organise & arrive with the tourist EVisa available online
