well after all the restless, sleepless nights stressed out about getting a bank account, I arrived in Thailand on the 2 ND December, immigration the next day very helpful people, explained it all for my extension of stay, the 4th of December got up early with a bit of nerves as it was bank account day, this could not have been easier, 2 bank accounts in about an hour, very easy, the hardest thing was getting my profile photo, and trying to sign my name the same twice, lol, anybody starting to go through the same just don't worry, have the right paperwork and visa and it's a doddle,

you must have a long term visa to get an account, tourist visas are no good for opening bank accounts also dtv's are classed as a tourist visa so no good to get a bank account.

It's so good to see positive posts about banking and visas etc. There are so many posts that try to scare people about these topics. It seems if you try to do things the correct way it usually goes smooth

I agree, people that have bad experiences like to share while those who don't tend to just get on with life. Most of the negative comments on pages like this represent the vocal minority. It's just the way humans are programmed!

bs comment.

There is no problem opening an account with non-o.

"Unhappy" people have a tourist visa or a visa exemption.

I can confirm this. I arrived on the 1st of December and went the next day to immigration for the residence registration (15 min) and after that immediately to the mobile phone shop and got an mobile nr registered on my name. Then to the bank to open 2 accounts (Kasikorn bank) took me 1 and a half hours. 2 accounts because 1 normal THB account and 1 foreign currency account.
