TLDR : Answer Summary

Users share insights on potential issues and solutions such as needing a VPN, turning off location settings, and using apps for voice calls and texting. It highlights the functioning of Google Voice for messaging over Wi-Fi and clarifies the dialing process for calls.

I have a better and cheaper app. $.01 to USA from Cambodia. Not sure if WiFi is required because sometimes it works when I am not on WiFi. But usually I use the app over WiFi. Can. Any line or toll free number. Crystal clear too. Love it.

This method also works on PC when using a VPN I recommend proton VPN

Turn your location off, open an incognito window in Chrome then log into your Google Voice and you can make phone calls wherever you need

With google voice you would be calling using their app so there should be no Thai voice. The calling would be dialed exactly as if you were in the US like 555-123-4567. No need for a VPN. AIS would only see data and not a phone call

I had a similar experience on my last visit. With or without VPN on an AIS simcard I could not get voice calls to work anywhere, but the messaging part worked fine over wifi.
this is weird. You used the google voice app to dial is this correct? Shouldn’t get a Thai message. Did you try on WiFi? Can you send text messages from the google fi app?
I couldn't do that either. Someone said I shouldn't use AIS and use wifi only. I did use the Google Voice app to try to make the call. Maybe something in the settings?
