I am a little confused on how to apply for my Non-0 visa .

My current visa ends next month and I will be getting a spousal visa through my Thai husband .

Our local immigration told my husband that it would be best to call and make an appointment in Laos to get it.

The website to make an appointment is down and no one has answered several numbers we have tried.

From research it seems we must apply online with the e-visa system .

I am in Thailand currently so do I need to exit the country to submit the e-visa form? Or can I do it from here ? I am assuming I must leave.

If I go to Laos or Viatnam do I also need to have an appointment at the embassy there ?

We read that it can take two weeks to approve so if we apply from there , I guess we just wait outside of Thailand until it’s approved.

I hope I am explaining this well just trying to figure out if we need to do both E-visa and make an appointment at the embassy.

Thanks!
Answer summary
The user is seeking clarification on the application process for a Non-O visa as they transition to a spousal visa through their Thai husband. They are currently in Thailand, have been advised by local immigration to make an appointment in Laos, and are confused about whether they need to leave Thailand to apply through the e-visa system. Comments suggest that while the e-visa application can be initiated from Thailand, it must be finalized outside the country, specifically in Laos. They need to ensure their entry stamp into Laos is part of their application and should prepare for potential inquiries regarding their stay in Thailand.

You have to stay outside of Thailand, when you finalize the first approval for a non-o visa.

You do it online and prepare it in evisa in Thailand, but the last step, paying and finalize your approval have to be outside of Thailand.

The approval date has to be later then the stamp leaving Thailand and arriving for example in Laos in you passport!

Then wait for approval, they might ask you more. I had to explain why I want to stay in Thailand for example. I recommend 2 weeks, even if it usually not takes not more than 5 working days.

How are you currently in Thailand?

Depending on the answer to that, it would be interesting to find out why your immigration office cannot or will not issue the non-O visa to you directly.

If you must go to Laos to apply, then yes you cannot be in Thailand. You go to Laos, take a photo of your entry stamp to Laos, and use that as part of your application in the e-visa system. Then you wait until your visa is issued and travel back to Thailand.

There are no appointments, but you will have to go to the Thai embassy in the morning after your application is submitted in order to pay.

you pay online, there is no need to go to embassy.

you don't know what you're talking about. In Laos you CANNOT pay online. You must pay in cash at the embassy after submitting your application during their payment hours.

thank you for your help.

Ya that was our original plan but we went in to check after the new year and it seems they thought it better to get the non-0 there. I will look into it a bit more . Either way I think it will work out it may be nice to spend a few days there.

Thank you for taking the time to answer and thank you for this clear answer it is very helpful.

My husband asked if our immigration would issue a non-0 visa but they thought it best for me to leave and start with a fresh visa due to our circumstances.

Doesn't really make much sense unless something weird is going on. Because a non-O to a foreign female to a Thai male does not even have a financial requirement. It's a very easy application because of that. Are you sure they're not just being lazy?

you are coming off the back of a Non-O extension so will have no recent history of visa exempt entries to cause issues at the border (other than the local border "rules" may require you to spend 1 or 2 nights out before returning).

yes I believe they do. They originally told us to do this (last month ) and to just come in on a tourist visa.

However this week they told us it would be better to get the Non-0 , maybe because of of the new border rules 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for your help, I am going to look into it some more.

Okay. That is an interesting situation. It probably is easier to start fresh then. But like Graham said, there isn't really any reason to get the visa from Laos unless you want to spend a few days there already. You should be able to bounce out and back to reset your status to a tourist, and then go back to immigration and convert to a new non-O.

just exit and re-enter and get your Non-O in Thailand if your Immigration does the visa exempt to Non-O conversion

My husband received his Thai citizenship this past year so now he will live on that since he no longer requires a visa. Once he cancels his visa or when it expires mine is as well since I am a dependent.

Our situation is unique so our immigration office wants us to start with a fresh non-0 and then I will proceed for my spousal extension when we arrive back in Thailand .

I am assuming it’s because he will no longer have a visa and it will cancel mine.

I don’t think they are sure what to do with this situation.
